A Thai woman named Pimporn has reported a scam involving artificial intelligence to the local police. She discovered an imposter using her likeness to deceive men on TikTok. The impostor's account, claiming her identity as Boonyaporn, had garnered over 500 followers, raising concerns about potential misuse of her images for scams or illicit purposes.

Pimporn learned about the fake account on October 6, when a friend inquired if she had changed her TikTok profile. Alarmed by the situation, she approached the Samrong Nuea Police Station and sought assistance from the non-profit organization Saimai Survive. Efforts to confront the fake account revealed it was only accessible to male contacts, prompting one of her male friends to engage with the imposter.

During contact with the friend, the imposter claimed to reside in Khon Kaen province, Thailand and to sell products online. When invited for an in-person meeting, the impostor declined. A video call was arranged where the person's appearance matched Pimporn’s exactly, yet a disconnect between the voice and movements suggested the use of AI technology.

Pimporn suspected someone close to her could be involved, given the imposter's detailed knowledge of her personal information such as her birthday, age, and job. Ekkaphop Luangprasert of Saimai Survive is working with police to identify and apprehend the suspect.

At this time, no further reports from additional victims have been made, leaving the scale of the deception uncertain. Authorities continue their investigation to bring those responsible to justice.

Key Takeaways

  • A ladyboy used AI to impersonate a woman on TikTok, creating concerns of scam.
  • The imposter accurately mimicked her visuals using advanced technology.
  • Authorities are investigating the incident, with no further victims identified yet.
