The Crime Suppression Division (CSD) has carried out a nationwide crackdown under the operation “Takedown Mafia: Bull Fighting”, targeting an extensive illegal gambling and money laundering network linked to a southern crime syndicate. The coordinated raids, conducted across Songkhla, Satun, Phatthalung, Khon Kaen and Bangkok, resulted in nine arrests and the seizure of firearms, cash and digital evidence. Authorities said the operation aimed to cut off financial channels supporting influential criminal figures in the South.

The operation was led by Pol Lt Gen Natthasak Chaonanasai, commander of the Central Investigation Bureau, directing teams under Pol Maj Gen Phattanasak Bupphasuwan and Pol Col Anusorn Thongsai of the Crime Suppression Division. Officers from the Highway and Marine Police divisions also took part. Six suspects were detained under gambling-related warrants, two for firearm offences and one for operating an illegal online lottery platform. Seized items included five firearms, 143 rounds of ammunition, 12 mobile phones, seven bankbooks, two computers, a CCTV server, and two vehicles.

Investigations revealed that the network used illegal bullfighting and cockfighting events to generate funds and launder money through unlicensed betting websites. These activities were reportedly broadcast live online to attract gamblers nationwide. The operation stemmed from months of intelligence work by Subdivision 6 officers, who found that the same group had previously been involved in drug trafficking, contract killings and other organised crimes in the southern provinces.

Police said the syndicate’s profits were reinvested into legitimate businesses, allowing suspects to strengthen their influence and evade scrutiny. The practice, authorities noted, contributed to widespread public harm by funding criminal operations and undermining law enforcement efforts. Officers believe the network circulated more than 100 million baht through illegal betting channels.

Investigators are now tracing additional transactions and potential accomplices linked to the gambling network. Police have pledged to continue targeting similar operations, particularly those connected to influential figures using local animal fighting traditions as fronts for online gambling. The arrested suspects remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.
