Vietnam now has a record 25 universities featured in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026, with Vietnam National University, Hanoi leading at 158th. This marks an increase of eight institutions from the previous edition of the rankings released by Quacquarelli Symonds. Several Vietnamese universities have either improved their standings or made strong debuts.

Vietnam National University, Hanoi climbed three places, maintaining its position as the top-ranked institution in the country. Duy Tan University, however, experienced a drop, falling to 165th from its previous ranking. Notable new entries include HCMC University of Technology (HUTECH) and Foreign Trade University, with HUTECH achieving a remarkable 287th position.

Van Lang University made a significant leap, advancing from the 491–500 band to 251st, making it one of Vietnam's top five universities. The rankings reflect improvements for many, with universities like HUTECH performing well among newcomers. Institutions such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology and University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City placed in the 300–400 band.

The rankings consider various indicators, with academic reputation accounting for 30% and employer reputation for 20%. Other factors include citations per paper, faculty-student ratio, and an international research network, each comprising 10% of the assessment. Additional criteria such as international faculty ratio and exchange student movement contribute the remaining percentages.

The top 10 universities in Asia are heavily dominated by institutions from Greater China and Singapore. This includes the University of Hong Kong, Peking University, and the National University of Singapore. The broad range of indicators reflects the diverse aspects of university performance considered important in the QS Asia rankings.

Key Takeaways

  • Vietnam increases presence with 25 universities in the 2026 QS rankings.
  • Vietnam National University, Hanoi remains the top institution at 158th.
  • Newcomer HCMC University of Technology (HUTECH) impressively ranks 287th.
