King Charles Warns Beatrice And Eugenie To Pay Their Way

 

 

King Charles has reportedly issued a “blunt message” to Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, making it clear they must “stand on their own two feet” as part of his wider financial reform of the monarchy — and amid renewed embarrassment over their father Prince Andrew’s scandals.

 

Royal author Robert Jobson, writing in The Windsor Legacy, claims Charles is determined to modernise the institution and end the practice of non-working royals living in grace-and-favour homes. The King is said to be frustrated that palace residences have been treated “like a hotel, and not a very good one,” and intends to begin renting royal properties at commercial rates, even to vetted outsiders.

 

Beatrice and Eugenie, who are not working royals, are understood to be aware of the King’s stance. Beatrice currently divides her time between a farmhouse in the Cotswolds with her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and a state-funded apartment in St James’s Palace, while Eugenie lives between Portugal and London’s Ivy Cottage at Kensington Palace with her husband Jack Brooksbank.

 

According to royal sources cited in Jobson’s book, Charles views his slimmed-down monarchy as essential for long-term survival — and wants to avoid the perception of royal privilege at taxpayer expense, particularly while Prince Andrew’s name remains tarnished by scandal.

 

“The King has been clear that the monarchy must be fit for the modern age,” a source said. “That means fewer perks and more accountability.”

The move underscores Charles’s push to draw a firm line between working royals and those who hold titles but perform no official duties — even if they are his nieces.
