Motorcyclist Runs Red Light, Hits Police Bike - Officer Injured

A police officer was injured after a motorcyclist ran a red light and collided with his motorcycle in Bangkok. The incident occurred at Ratchawithi intersection on the morning of 9 November 2025, leaving the officer thrown from his motorcycle. He was immediately rushed to Police General Hospital for treatment.

 

The officer involved has been identified as Police Sergeant Major Thanawin Kittipithakthara, traffic unit, Dusit Police Station. CCTV footage and video shared by JS100 show the motorcyclist accelerating through the red light, striking the police motorcycle while other vehicles waited at the intersection. The force of the collision caused Sergeant Major Thanawin to be thrown a distance from the scene.

Police Major General Worasak Phisitbanjakorn, Commissioner of Metropolitan Police Division 1, visited the hospital to offer support. He provided 15,000 baht for medical care and daily expenses during Sergeant Major Thanawin’s hospitalisation. Authorities confirmed that the motorcyclist had violated traffic signals, prompting a police investigation into the crash.

 

The incident has drawn attention to road safety enforcement, particularly regarding motorists disregarding traffic signals. Police have urged the public to comply with road rules to prevent similar incidents. Sergeant Major Thanawin’s condition is being closely monitored, with medical staff reporting that he remains in a stable condition. Authorities will pursue charges against the motorcyclist for traffic violations and causing injury.

We all see this every day at most junctions and if anything it seems to be getting worse here in Pattaya :sad:
