A Thai motorcycle taxi rider in Bangkok, is seeking justice after his ride-hailing app account was suspended for cancelling a service mid-journey due to allegations of sexual harassment by a male passenger. The suspension occurred after the passenger filed a complaint against him, despite Nitiaut's claim that he was defending himself against inappropriate behavior. Nitiaut contacted the non-profit organisation Saimai Survive for support after his account was removed without what he felt was justified cause.

The incident began around 7.20pm on October 28, when a male passenger booked a ride from Thammasat University to the Charansanitwong area. During the ride, the passenger allegedly wrapped both arms around Nitiaut and touched him inappropriately. Despite the rider's efforts to stop the behavior by instructing the passenger to use the motorcycle's rear handle, the harassment reportedly continued until Nitiaut stopped and cancelled the ride.

Nitiaut filed a police report and submitted a video of the incident as evidence, asserting that he acted to protect himself. However, the rider's app account was suspended following the passenger’s complaint that the ride was not completed. This suspension has left Nitiaut unable to work, prompting him to argue for the need for rider protection and dignity.

Ekkaphop Luangprasert, the founder of Saimai Survive, pledged to assist Nitiaut in seeking justice, emphasizing the legal ramifications passengers face for harassing riders. This incident highlights ongoing concerns for ride-hailing service providers, who must balance customer complaints with protecting riders from misconduct.

Looking ahead, Nitiaut and Saimai Survive plan to continue their campaign for fair treatment of riders, focusing on policy changes within ride-hailing companies. This case underscores the need for comprehensive measures to ensure both riders' safety and fair processes for handling complaints, which will be critical in preventing similar incidents in the future.
