A cargo tug vessel collided with residential homes along the Chao Phraya River in Ko Kret, Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi, in the early hours of 18 November 2025 causing three houses to collapse into the water. Residents were forced to evacuate quickly, with at least two individuals reportedly falling into the river during the incident. No fatalities have been confirmed, though the damage to property is extensive.

The incident occurred around 01:00. Ms. Saipin, 66, owner of house number 27/2, described hearing the vessel approaching and noticing sparks and loud noises from the impact. She evacuated with her sister and young grandchild by climbing out of a window. Her house had recently been renovated in May 2025 with new support beams costing approximately 300,000 baht. Her brother’s neighbouring house, fully renovated at a cost of 2 million baht, was also destroyed.

Mr. Toen, 30, the vessel’s captain, explained that he was transporting gypsum from Bang Pa-in to Samut Prakan when the river’s strong current caused his iron-hulled cargo ship to lose control. He stated that the steering mechanism became faulty, leading the vessel to collide with the riverside homes. His wife, Ms. Gibb, 28, confirmed that she assisted in steering the vessel after the collision.

Authorities have been notified and the homeowners have filed a police report at Pak Kret Police Station. The vessel, which lacks insurance coverage, remains a concern for potential claims and reparations. Officials are examining the mechanical failure that led to the collision and assessing waterway safety measures.

Komchadluek reported that residents face displacement and property losses as rebuilding efforts are evaluated. Investigations into the captain’s responsibilities and potential compensation claims are ongoing.

Key Takeaways

• Three riverside homes in Ko Kret, Nonthaburi, were destroyed after a cargo vessel collision.

• The vessel’s steering malfunctioned amid strong river currents, according to the captain.

• The ship has no insurance and residents have filed police reports while awaiting compensation.

Insurance claim form -  Reason for the accident :

Answer, "house sunk by boat"    😎

No insurance on boat or cargo. How about the owner of the product? The would be tied up in court for years!

Unlikely the houses had insurance either. One would think at least flood insurance would be prudent for houses right on the river.
