A garbage truck driver in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya narrowly escaped death when his vehicle crossed into the opposite lane, collided with an 18-wheel truck ran off the road and sank almost completely into floodwater. Rescue personnel managed to support the driver’s head above water and extricate him safely.

The incident occurred at around 07:30 on 21 November 2025 on Moo 4 Road, Ban Pom Subdistrict, near Wat Phra Ngam. The floodwaters alongside the road submerged most of the truck, leaving only part of the vehicle visible. The driver, Mr. Somporn, remained inside, with only his head above water to breathe until rescuers arrived.

Ayutthaya rescue teams entered the water to stabilise Mr. Somporn’s head and used hydraulic tools to free him. The operation took nearly an hour due to water levels and limited working space. Mr. Somporn reported he had been awake since 03:00 collecting garbage and fell asleep at the wheel, causing the truck to cross lanes and strike the oncoming truck before plunging into the water.

The 18-wheel truck driver stated he was heading towards Bangkok and could not avoid the garbage truck, which suddenly entered his lane. He helped alert authorities immediately after the collision.

Matichon reported that police from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya station inspected the scene, confirming the garbage truck was submerged while the 18-wheel truck remained on the road with minor damage. No fatalities occurred. Investigators reported driver fatigue as the primary cause and are collecting evidence and statements from both parties.
