Bangkok police arrested a 44-year-old Chinese national, Mr Anuchit, also known as Mr Yuan Ouyang, on 22 November 2025, for illegally using a Thai national ID.  Authorities say he paid approximately 1.5 million baht to obtain the ID to facilitate business operations in Thailand. The arrest took place outside a gold shop on a footpath in Samae Dam, Bang Khun Thian district, Bangkok.

The case is part of a broader crackdown, “Operation Fog Cut Wiang Haeng,” involving the Anti-Corruption and Special Investigation units in Chiang Mai’s Wiang Haeng district. Local officials, including district chiefs, subdistrict officers, village heads and other administrators, were implicated in providing falsified residency certificates and citizenship to foreign nationals, predominantly Chinese, often linked to black accounts. Fees for obtaining documents reportedly ranged from 800,000 baht to over 1 million baht per person.

Mr Anuchit was listed as suspect number 25 in the group using Thai IDs while holding Chinese passports. Police indicated he had entered Thailand to conduct business as an investor. During questioning, he denied wrongdoing, claiming that someone offered to arrange the Thai ID for 300,000 yuan (approx. 1.5 million baht), which he paid for convenience in his business activities.

He was handed over to investigators at Division 4, Anti-Corruption Police, for legal proceedings, reported Khaosod. Authorities continue to investigate the wider network of officials and foreign nationals involved in the scheme.

Trusted Thailand

Pleasing to note the local officials issuing the fake documents may do some prison time.
