Former deputy national police chief, Pol Gen Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn, remains unmoved by the defamation complaint lodged against him by the Royal Thai Police Office. Accused of defamation after stating that the police form the largest criminal network in Thailand, Surachate visited the Crime Suppression Division on Tuesday. He continues to assert that his claims reflect the widespread corruption within the police force.

Surachate, dismissed from his position last year, made these comments highlighting the involvement of police officers in accepting bribes from gambling website operators. He emphasised that his aim was to bring attention to these corrupt practices, not to defame the entire Royal Thai Police Office but to target those individuals engaging in illegal activities. Surachate also revealed that attempts to silence him are underway because he possesses significant information about these issues.

Pol Lt Gen Trairong Phiewphan, the deputy police inspector-general, filed the legal complaint on orders from national police chief Pol Gen Kittharath Punpetch. Surachate revealed that he remained silent for the past year, meticulously gathering evidence to bolster his claims. He promised to disclose more details soon, indicating that his accusations are based on concrete evidence.

Looking forward, the public awaits further revelations from Surachate, which could substantially impact the reputation of the Royal Thai Police. The situation underscores ongoing tensions within the Thai police force and raises questions about potential reforms and the extent of crime involvement among officers. The outcome of this legal confrontation could lead to significant changes within the police establishment.

Key Takeaways

  • Pol Gen Surachate remains firm in his accusation against police corruption.
  • The Royal Thai Police deny his claims, filing a defamation complaint.
  • Surachate plans to reveal more evidence shortly, possibly escalating the issue.

Nope. Not anymore.

He is the face of a faction. That faction has decided that now is the time. Why?

20 years ago, this wouldnt have happened. Why now?

Something is happening behind the scenes that we dont know about, nor can we discuss.

But its all about power and money.

I reiterate my prayer for Thailand. I hope things dont spiral

It does look like he is walking on thin ice...............🥶

He's ageing out of a possible return to the RTP.

He's destined to be a Chuwit knock-off, a permanent gadfly.

Not too sure it solely about power and money - could well be a much higher influence being factored into it.
