A new uterine elevator device for laparoscopic surgery has received an exclusive patent in Vietnam to address caesarean scar defects (isthmocele). Issued by the Intellectual Property Office, the patent is granted to Professor Dr Nguyễn Viết Tiến, a key figure in obstetrics and gynaecology. This innovation aims to improve the precision and safety of surgeries, assisting in cases of infertility and recurrent embryo transfer failures linked to caesarean scars.

Caesarean scar defects, affecting 12.7-48% of women post-C-section, pose risks such as secondary infertility and prolonged bleeding. Rising caesarean delivery rates have led to increased prevalence, necessitating advanced treatment options. Traditional therapies, like hormonal contraception, provide limited relief, while laparoscopic surgeries face challenges in accurately identifying defects without risking healthy tissue damage.

The new device features a semi-opaque white Teflon tip coated with oil, inserted inside the uterine cavity. This tip transmits light, making the scar defect visible externally, thus improving accuracy. The technology reduces surgical complications by enhancing visibility and precision, lowering the surgeon's dependence on experience alone and minimizing the risk of bladder injury.

Tiến's device has been used in nearly 500 procedures, achieving high success rates without complications. Patients have reported improved reproductive health, with some achieving natural conception or successful embryo transfers. Looking forward, Tiến's commitment to advancing women's health remains unwavering as he continues to innovate in the field, reported Vietnam News.

Key Takeaways

  • Patented device significantly enhances visibility in laparoscopic surgeries.
  • Usage in nearly 500 cases shows success without complications.
  • Innovation aims to improve reproductive health outcomes in Việt Nam.
