Ho Chi Minh City, along with neighboring provinces, is braced for a period of widespread thunderstorms from Tuesday evening through Saturday as reported by the Southern Hydrometeorological Station. This weather condition coincides with a full-moon high tide on the Saigon River, which has already exceeded the highest alarm level, posing significant flooding risks in various regions.

Prior to these events, the southern metropolis enjoyed a cooler dawn on Tuesday, with temperatures around 24 degrees Celsius. However, forecasts indicate an overlap of thunderstorms and rising tides throughout the coming days. The weather station has issued warnings of moderate to heavy rainfall persisting in some areas of HCMC until Friday.

AccuWeather, a U.S.-based weather service, has also forecasted continuous showers and downpours in the city from Tuesday evening through Saturday. The expected temperature during this time will range between 24–25 degrees Celsius at night and 30–32 degrees Celsius during the day. Water levels along the Saigon River continue to increase due to the full-moon high tide, with peaks anticipated on Thursday and Friday.

Tidal measurements at Phu An and Nha Be stations, important locations in downtown and the city's southern gateway, are expected to rise to 1.65–1.70 meters, surpassing alarm level 3 by 5–10 centimeters. These peak tides are predicted to occur between 4–6 a.m. and 5–7 p.m. Meanwhile, Thu Dau Mot station, positioned in the eastern gateway, may experience water levels reaching 1.73–1.78 meters, which exceeds alarm level 3 by 13–18 centimeters, reported VN Express.

Key Takeaways

  • HCMC is set to face thunderstorms combined with high tides through Saturday.
  • Flood risks increase as Saigon River levels surpass the highest alarm level.
  • Thursday and Friday expect the most significant river peaks, impacting several areas.
