A dramatic sinkhole collapsed part of Nguyen Cong Tru Street in Da Nang, engulfing two parked cars and leaving another vehicle precariously positioned on the edge. The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon, drawing immediate emergency response to the busy area in An Hai Ward, close to Ngo Quyen Road, where visible surface cracks had already been observed.

The sinkhole appeared around 2 pm, measuring nearly half the road’s width and approximately two meters deep, adjacent to an active construction site and amid heavy rainfall. Emergency crews quickly arrived to cordon off the area and ensure public safety, as excavators and rescue equipment were used to safely remove the damaged vehicles. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported following the incident.

Local authorities, including the Chairman of An Hai Ward’s People’s Committee, Hoang Cong Thanh, reassured the public that the situation is under control. They are collaborating with relevant units to investigate the cause of the collapse. The city's Department of Construction has commenced inspections, aiming to ascertain what led to the dramatic subsidence.

The incident has prompted concern about infrastructure safety, especially given the ongoing construction work and inclement weather conditions in the city. Experts are calling for a thorough assessment of risk factors at construction sites and adjacent streets. The swift response by local officials highlights the importance of emergency preparedness in urban areas prone to such incidents.

Looking forward, investigations will aim to prevent a recurrence and ensure that construction protocols and infrastructure assessments are adequately robust to handle environmental challenges. As efforts continue to stabilize the affected area, the city remains committed to maintaining safety and averting future hazards, reported The Nation.
