THAILAND - Pheu Thai leader Julapun Amornvivat has remained silent on when a censure motion against Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul might be filed. The move could preempt the prime minister's potential dissolution of the House to trigger a general election. Parliament is set to resume next Friday, leaving room for political manoeuvres.

Julapun dismissed speculations that the censure motion would occur immediately upon the session's opening. The motion aims to challenge Anutin and the Bhumjaithai-led cabinet, potentially leading to parliamentary gamesmanship. The opposition hopes to use this strategy to delay any House dissolution, which can only occur before the motion is formally tabled.

The opposition, led by the People’s Party, is also pushing for constitutional amendments, requiring a public referendum. Meanwhile, Anutin hinted at dissolving the House to prevent prolonged debates and possible no-confidence votes. Such a dissolution would halt the constitutional amendment process.

Government critics note the minority status of the Bhumjaithai-led government, which has fewer than 170 MPs against nearly 300 opposition lawmakers. Anutin faces potential ousting if a no-confidence vote occurs. A general election could take place as early as February if dissolution happens by month’s end, adhering to legal timeframes.

Critics suggest Anutin might want elections before Thaksin Shinawatra, a significant opposition influencer, is released on parole in March. The current political scenario may impact Pheu Thai's electoral standing, with elections possibly reshuffling the power dynamics. There's speculation about leadership figures within the Pheu Thai, including Thaksin's kin, who may run for office in the upcoming election, reported Thai Newsroom.

Key Takeaways:

  • Julapun has not set a date for the censure motion, amidst dissolution speculation.
  • Anutin may dissolve the House to avoid censure debates, affecting constitutional amendments.
  • A general election is possible by February, influencing the political landscape.

Anutin was never going to agree the Constitutional Amendments the People's Party wanted for their support to be PM. Seems like they've been played yet again and should withdraw their support immediately should he dissolve The House without any clear path to Constitutional reform.

Ah thai politics what a circus nothing will happen while they are fighting going back not forwards as  usual

So what. Isn't there a general election in a few months ?
