The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has deployed free bus services across major routes in Metro Manila due to a transport strike led by the group Manibela starting December 9. The services will continue until the end of the three-day strike on December 11, aiming to ensure that public transportation remains uninterrupted for commuters.

This strike is a response to Manibela's grievances regarding the alleged abuses at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and delays in releasing jeepney registration papers. As a result, around 20,000 jeepneys have halted operations in Metro Manila. The PCG has arranged buses and trucks on standby to address any commuter distress along designated routes, which include the Quezon City–Manila and Manila–Parañaque corridors.

Commuters can catch these free rides from several key locations like Quiapo, Elliptical Road, and Baclaran Church, ensuring connectivity across the city's vital areas. The PCG's swift action is intended to mitigate the impact of the strike on the commuting public. This move is also part of the broader strategy to handle any rising demand for alternative transport.

Efforts by the PCG have been met with relief from commuters facing travel disruptions due to the strike. The availability of free transportation highlights an effective response to potential chaos incited by the absence of regular jeepney services. Transport analysts suggest such initiatives prevent further congestion and economic strain in a city heavily reliant on public transport.

Moving forward, stakeholders are looking to address the root issues raised by Manibela with the LTO to prevent future strikes. Discussions are expected to continue between transport groups and government agencies to resolve these disputes amicably. The collaboration between the PCG and local transit authorities exemplifies a proactive approach to urban transport management in crisis situations, reported Manila Bulletin.
