A large rock, suspected to have fallen from a construction truck, crashed into a 16-seat tourist van in central Vietnam on December 8, resulting in the death of a 57-year-old Russian passenger and severely injuring another traveler. The incident occurred as the van was traveling through Dai Ninh Pass on National Highway 28. Authorities reported the injured passenger was promptly taken to Binh Thuan General Hospital for urgent care.

The van was heading from Mui Ne to Da Lat when, without warning, the rock tore through the vehicle's roof. Responding swiftly, police searched the area along the road but were unable to locate the truck involved, which is assumed to have left the scene. Efforts to identify the vehicle and ascertain how the rock fell are ongoing, with investigators currently analyzing surveillance footage.

National Highway 28B is amidst extensive upgrades, contributing to increased traffic of heavy trucks transporting construction materials through Dai Ninh Pass. Locals have voiced concerns about the safety of the route, noting that the steep and narrow terrain, combined with the surge in construction traffic, has heightened the risk of accidents.

The incident underscores the need for enhanced safety measures in the area, as authorities continue to grapple with the challenge of managing the growing infrastructure demands and ensuring the safety of travelers. As the investigation progresses, law enforcement aims to hold accountable those responsible for maintaining road safety standards, reported VN Express.
