Cambodian authorities have detained 75 Thai nationals suspected of being involved in online scams, highlighting an ongoing nationwide crackdown on fraud. Among those detained were 48 women, apprehended during a police raid at a farm in Phnom Penh’s Chbar Ampov district. Confiscated items included laptops and numerous mobile phones, according to the Commission for Combating Technology Crimes (CCTC).

The operation followed reports of clandestine criminal activities at the farm, prompting a police investigation into technology-based fraud. The CCTC is continuing its efforts to identify and prosecute the ringleaders of this operation. All detainees, along with the seized evidence, have been handed over to the national police to initiate legal proceedings.

In addition, another coordinated raid in Sihanoukville led to the arrest of 50 South Korean nationals also involved in online scams. This joint operation by Cambodian and South Korean police resulted in the confiscation of 63 computers, 60 mobile phones, and 60 tablets.

As the investigations progress, authorities are focused on dismantling the networks behind these fraudulent activities. Experts highlight the importance of international cooperation in tackling such crimes, considering the cross-border nature of these scams. The raids indicate a robust response by Cambodian authorities to combat cybercrime in the region.

Looking forward, further investigations are expected to uncover the full extent of the operations and lead to additional arrests. Authorities aim to enforce stricter measures to prevent future occurrences and protect citizens from online fraud, reported Bangkok Post.
