A construction worker was irate at a neighbor who scolded him and his parents. He and the neighbor got into a knife fight and the angry worker slashed his neighbor’s head with an axe. He hadn’t intended to murder his neighbor, but things got out of hand and the neighbor died. Police arrested the crazed construction worker.

On 18 August 2007, at 3:20 AM, Police Lieutenant Colonel Kuwut Chainual, Banglamung, Pattaya, received a call that there was a fatal attack at a house without a number, near the Pattaya Railway Station, Soi Siam Sountry Club, Moo 6, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi, A police team and Sawang Boriboon rescue workers rushed to the scene to investigate.

At the scene, police found the body of Mr. Supat Wongsa (45), a construction worker from Chiangrai Province, prostrate on the ground in front of the house. There was a slash mark, about thirty centimetres long, on the back of his neck up to his ear. His wife, Mrs. Nual (55), from Surin Province and his four year-old son were crying and holding the body. Mrs. Nual told police that her husband was killed by a neighbor who used a one foot long wooden axe to slash her husband and left the axe at the crime scene, which police kept as evidence.

Police, immediately, spread out to an area of 50 square meters around the house and apprehended Pranom Wongpea (42), a construction worker from Sragaew Province, who appeared to be intoxicated. During the arrest, Mr. Pranom's children were frightened and tried to prevent the police from arresting their father.

Mr. Pranom confessed that Mr. Supat used to be his closest friend. He and his family used to stay with Mr. Supat when he was unemployed. Presently, he had a job as a railway construction worker and obtained his own house near Mr. Supat's home. Since Mr. Pranom became more prosperous, Mr. Supat and his wife did not talk to him, possibly because they were jealous of his good fortune and thought that he forgot the favors that Mr. Supat used to do for him. Mr. Supat was often complaining to him and his parents, especially when he was drunk. Mr. Pranom had been keeping it to himself for many months.

On the night of the incident, Mr. Pranom, with his wife and children, went to have dinner with a Pattaya railway officer and came back home to his house. He observed that Mr. Supat and his wife were drinking in front of their house. Mr. Supat started to speak to him and his parents in an abusive manner. Mr. Pranom went over to Mr. Supat intending to clear the air. However, Mr. Supat chased him away. On his way back to his house, Mr. Supat grabbed a machete, used for grass cutting, and slashed at his back, but he was not injured. Mr. Pranom ran to his house to get an ax to fight Mr. Supot. In the meantime, Mr. Supot's wife also tried to attack him. Mr. Pranom said that he had no choice but to defend himself. During the ensuing altercation, Mr. Pranom used his ax to slash the back of Mr. Supat’s neck. Mr. Supat fell to the ground, unconscious. Mr. Pranom said he did not intend to kill Mr. Supat.

Mr. Supat's wife and Mr. Pranom ran back to their respective homes. Mr. Pranom did not realize that Mr. Supat was dead. After the fight, Mr. Pranom hid in his house until he was arrested for murder. Police detained Mr. Pranom to take his confession. He will now have to face the full consequences of the legal system.
