Thailand Rules Out Ceasefire Until Cambodia Ends Hostilities

I think Thailand needs to punish Cambodia to a relatively high degree, before the completely unhinged and insane Hun Sen gets in his head that he's on the losing side of this battle. Simpletons like Trump cannot end this with one phone call. Cambodia needs to start behaving itself. Sen needs to be crushed.

  • Personally i think this more about politics than anything else trying to get the population behind him before the election and rallying the thai people

  • Just let them hammer this out by themselves, no pulling punches, winner takes all. If I was Thailand I would throw everything I had at Cambodia and go right for the heads of Hun Sen and Hun Manet. Any

Exactly.

You’re dead right.

And still, at this time, 2 people have the courage to disagree with your comment.

They must be living in an alternate reality, because the alternative is very bad looking for them…

Of course there's no ceasefire, they'll only fight a nation they can bully ( and that's not many ) against any nation putting up a resistance the Thais would have surrendered within 24 hours

Can confirm here in Phanom Dong Rak that as of 05:35 this morning, there is no ceasefire. Just got woken up by the sounds of artillery firing.

I thought that everyone had been evacuated from Phanom Dong Rak because of intense fighting / bombing but I am obviously wrong

Evacuation orders have been given but many cannot leave as they have to take care of livestock and get their fields ready for the next rice planting season. For some, it is their only means of revenue.

Most children and old people have gone to shelters or families living further away from the front line. Besides, Phanom Dong Rak is a pretty big sub-district.

Political corruption & cynicism on one side of the frontier does not imply virtue on the other side.

This will not end soon until both countries have some intelligent political leadership - maybe Bangkok will have a white Christmas this year.

Thailand has tried with 3 leadership changes to no avail. I suspect if Cambodia changed out Hun the hun it may solve the problem.

And adding to EZFlip's response: The notion of 'everyone' doing what the governments dictates is not really a Thai concept. Everyone looks after themselves & their sprawling families and friends & bugger everyone else. So in my family we now have FIL & BIL still at the farm looking after the animals, and other olds & children & active adults distributed across various family homes and government tents from Buriram to Si Sa Ket. Now that my b/f & I have returned from BKK I expect we'll start receiving family members over the next couple of days. We have oodles of room, made easier by the fact that they ALL insist on sleeping on the floor. 'Bed?' what dat?

On the flip side I believe Hun is shoring up his stranglehold on the Cambodian political landscape for another 20 years especially with the closed press he has at his disposal.

News just in from remaining family in Khok Salaeng: Cambodian bombs/rockets falling all around them, on other farms for the moment.

The border isn’t the real reason for the hostilities, just the excuse. This is all about dick swinging by Anutin and Hun Sen to be the most dominant in the region and protecting their business interests, legal or not.

Pi#sing match between Hun Sen and Thaksin Shinawatra using their countries Military to settle personal differences

Both men should be in a Muay Thai arena to sort out personal differences not involving countries Military

Loser removes entire family from countries Politics.

Winner removes entire family from countries  Politics

I live in bangkok with a Thai girlfriend so you can imagine what viewpoint I am hearing. However, since I have a mind of my own and a number of years under my belt I will offer this ... I see Cambodia as a failed state. It has become a country run by a family owned criminal organizaion that is now fighting to maintain their criminal activities. I see the same with Myanmar. Their military is just another criminal organization.

same same but.. at least there is one ( family person ) in jail

Thailand Rules Out Ceasefire Until Cambodia Ends Hostilities.

Now that's very unlikely Cambodia is sticking to he ruling fom  the International Court of Justice and  getting their land back  But Thailand will Not Listen /Agree to that ruling so Thailand will not give back the land to Cambodia there will be no peace Thailand will keep fighting and not loose Face .

The immaturity of both sides is breath-taking. I don't think Trump or any mediator from the west understands "Thainess" or "Cambodian-ness". With nothing to be gained for either side from a war its a proper buggers muddle.

My fear for Thailand is if Cambodia starts detonating bombs in tourist areas like when the muslims were kicking off. We even had one in Samui. That would be very costly for Thailand. Crazy to think it all stemmed from Thaksins daughter getting caught sucking up to HunSen. What a family.

Wow, you certainly got your Muslim and Thaksin kicks in early!

Ya think that this ongoing fighting is as a result of a phone call early this year by the Thai PM?

Nah mate, I’ve lived close to the border for decades (now in Ubon) and can assure you that this has been flaring up on a regular basis.

Nothing to do with Muslims or Thaksin.

Nice try but no cigar.

You might want to slow down and reread the post you quoted. Nowhere did I blame this skirmish on muslims or Thaksin. But yes Thaksins daughter inflamed it badly when caught sucking up to Hun Sen. Thai pride doesnt allow that sort of behavior towards a weak neighbor.

And you might want to reread your post. You shoehorned “muslims” into it when there is zero evidence that this may turn out to be a religious problem.

Yeah i know the dispute is over the temple and boundaries.

Both Cambodia and Thailand are predominantly Buddhist followers.

Have that lie down now mate cos if you continue to spread your hysteria your heart might just say to you “ I wish you’d stop being so happy , I’m outa here”.
