The Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (Aerothai) has confirmed that the recent skirmishes along the Thai–Cambodian border are having no impact on international flight routes to and from Thailand. This announcement comes as reassurance to travellers during the bustling winter tourist season. Pichet Kunadhamraks, chairman of Aerothai's board, stated that airports and tourist destinations remain unaffected by the conflict.

According to Mr. Pichet, the fighting is occurring far from critical aviation and tourism zones, ensuring that flights remain uninterrupted. He remarked, “The fighting near the border has no impact whatsoever on flight routes serving winter tourism.” He emphasised that Thailand continues to maintain a delicate balance between its national security and the continued flow of economic and tourism activities.

Aerothai's operations are stable, safe, and in alignment with international standards. Mr. Pichet specifically urged tourists from South Korea to keep visiting Thailand, highlighting the nation's readiness for the high tourist season. Thailand has averaged 54 flights per day to and from South Korea over the past year, primarily via Seoul’s Incheon Airport.

Going forward, Aerothai anticipates an increase in daily flights, expecting to handle around 60 flights per day during December and January. This rise reflects confidence in Thailand as a secure and appealing destination, despite regional tensions. The country's commitment to international aviation standards ensures continued connectivity and safety for travellers.

Key Takeaways

  • Aerothai reassures that there will be no flight disruptions due to Thai–Cambodian border clashes.
  • Thailand's air traffic remains stable, supporting winter tourism flow.
  • Korean tourist numbers are expected to rise during December and January.

This is how to hit them hard, close the routes from Thailand to Cambodia.

For 'national security reasons' or some other excuse - it will hit them where it hurts.

The biggest losers would be THAI, Bangkok Airways and Thai Air Asia, the major airlines flying between Thailand and Cambodia with the loss of revenue and passengers/tourists.

If there were to be such closures, I could still enter Thailand easily  from airports in neighbouring countries like Laos and Vietnam.  My problem would be all the Cambodian Retirement visas in  my passport on arrival at Immigration in Thailand- a possible UK spy or drone operator!

When it comes to National security they're not going to care about company profits - it's about inflicting pain on the opposing side.

This would be a pressure point.

As we've seen with Thai businesses operating in Cambodia (7/11 etc) - nobody cares if they all go bankrupt, least of all the government.

Since this conflict started I’ve been keeping an eye on the daily flights between the countries and they’ve continued with very little disruption.

Stopping flights between Thailand and Cambodia will hurt Thailand more financially. Many tourists come to Thailand as a stopover before, or after, Cambodia.

GF flew from Bangkok to Phnom Penh last Monday on Thai Airways. Booked it late Sunday night using mileage. Only 2 seats left on the flight. Was able to redeem mileage for the ticket. Coming back, I looked at Thai Airways and got a notice saying that "redemptions are not currently available on this route" when I checked a few days ago. If flights were to be suspended, it's an easy option to go from Phnom Penh to Singapore to Bangkok so not worried about that.

Probably Laos and Penang profiting from the border closures ? At the same time, closer checks on tourists on Visa Exempt and limits to 2 border hops in a year is bound to affect tourist figures. I won’t complain, it was much better when there was less mass tourism
