A 39-year-old man named Thanathat was arrested in Bangkok for stealing a motorcycle belonging to a commando police officer in Nonthaburi province. The suspect claimed he committed the theft to raise money to care for his son, who has Down’s syndrome. Officers from Pak Kret Police Station seized the stolen white Honda MSX and the clothing Thanathat wore during the crime.

The motorcycle's owner, a 24-year-old officer named Wave, reported the theft on December 1 from a parking spot at Popular Condominium in Muang Thong Thani. Thanathat admitted to the theft during questioning, revealing that he and an accomplice found the vehicle unlocked and took only 15 minutes to steal it. He then attempted to sell it on Facebook Marketplace for 2,000 baht.

Thanathat stated that this was not his first motorcycle theft, though he denied any current drug use. He cited unemployment and the need to pay household bills as motivations for the crime, particularly highlighting the financial burden of caring for his terminally ill son. Doctors have told him that his son may only have a few months left to live due to severe lung failure.

Wave expressed forgiveness but cautioned Thanathat against repeating the crime, acknowledging that others may not be as forgiving. Police records reveal Thanathat's prior convictions and an outstanding warrant for another theft in 2025 in Pathum Thani. As he faces potential prison time, Thanathat voiced concerns about missing his son's funeral, reported The Thaiger.
