Ho Chi Minh City has greenlit plans to construct two pedestrian bridges over the Saigon River, connecting Nguyen Hue and Thai Van Lung streets to Bach Dang Wharf. This initiative aims to enhance pedestrian safety and reduce traffic congestion along Ton Duc Thang Street. The development includes an upgrade of Wharves B and C in the park area of Bach Dang Wharf, aligning with proposals from the Department of Construction.

The bridges are planned at the intersections of Nguyen Hue – Ton Duc Thang and Thai Van Lung – Ton Duc Thang. Each bridge will feature stairways, spiral staircases, and elevators, making them accessible to all pedestrians, with a notable design including curved steel arches for an architectural highlight. The city envisions Thai Van Lung Street evolving into a model street reflecting urban civility and traffic culture.

The project aims to blend transportation functionality with architectural beauty, with prefabricated steel structures that minimize road disruption during installation. The upgrade of Wharf B involves cleaning, fencing, and installing ramps, electricity, water systems, and greenery, while Wharf C will transform into a flower island enhancing the riverfront's aesthetic. The entire investment totals approximately VND80 billion ($3 million), with a completion target set for April 30, 2026.

Experts suggest these bridges will serve as significant landmarks and fulfill long-term urban planning goals. Financed via a build–transfer contract, the investor will also include LED screens for political messaging and advertising. The bridge construction and wharf renovations reflect Ho Chi Minh City’s commitment to improving urban infrastructure and enhancing the overall pedestrian experience.
