Taiwanese authorities have dismantled a prostitution ring involving 16 women from Thailand, culminating in the arrest of a Taiwanese man, Wu. Operated from a dormitory, the ring recruited Thai women for sex work in Taiwan, including Wu's girlfriend, a former student in Taiwan who served as a translator and recruiter. The National Immigration Agency (NIA) reported that the successful operation, initially conducted in June, was only recently disclosed due to legal procedures.

The investigation began following a tip-off about illegal activity in New Taipei City. Officers discovered the women living in the dormitory, all engaged in prostitution coordinated by Wu. The women, including Wu's translator girlfriend, facilitated transactions through social media platforms like Facebook and LINE. The operation mainly centered in Taoyuan City and Hsinchu, with transportation and logistical support provided to transport the women to various venues.

Wu reportedly earned a commission from each session, charging NT$4,000 per encounter and pocketing NT$1,000 to NT$1,500 as his cut. Another Taiwanese man, owning the dormitory, was also detained. He claimed ignorance of the activities and denied involvement. Both men faced charges under Taiwan’s Employment Services Act, resulting in NT$150,000 fines each.

Following the crackdown, authorities deported the 16 Thai women. The operation highlights a complex network reliant on social media for client communication, revealing potential vulnerabilities in regional enforcement and the exploitation of foreign nationals. The NIA continues efforts to combat transnational human trafficking and illegal employment practices, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • Taiwanese man Wu orchestrated a prostitution ring with 16 Thai women.
