The Ministry of Transport in Thailand announced that the Burapha Withi and Kanchanaphisek expressways will be toll-free from December 30, 2025, to January 5, 2026. This move is intended as a New Year gift to facilitate travel during the holiday season. The toll exemption applies to all vehicle types using these routes.

Announced on December 16, 2025, in the Royal Gazette, the policy follows a directive aimed at easing travel barriers during this busy time. It targets the Burapha Withi Expressway, linking Bangna and Chonburi, and the Kanchanaphisek Expressway, connecting Bang Phli and Suksawat. This initiative also includes the expressway segments leading to Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The toll-free period was approved by the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) Board under legal provisions. Specifically timed from just after midnight on December 30, 2025, until midnight on January 5, 2026, the waiver provides substantial savings and convenience. However, standard tolls will recommence immediately after this period.

The exemption is expected to benefit numerous travelers, including daily commuters and holidaymakers, enhancing connectivity amid festive celebrations. While the toll holiday is limited to the stated expressways, it signals a broader governmental effort to support public ease and mobility.

Going forward, stakeholders anticipate similar future initiatives that promote ease of travel during peak seasons. The Ministry's decision aligns with a pattern of infrastructural support, aiming to decongest roads and bolster holiday tourism. Travelers are advised to plan their trips accordingly, considering the return to normal toll operations after January 5, reported The Nation.

Key Takeaways

  • Thailand offers free tolls on two key expressways for New Year 2026.
  • Initiative runs from December 30, 2025, to January 5, 2026.
  • Regular tolls resume post-exemption period, easing holiday travel.
