Fact Check: Trump Repeats False Claims In Prime-Time Address

image.jpeg

President Donald Trump delivered a prime-time address from the White House packed with repeatedly debunked and demonstrably false claims, particularly on inflation, prices, immigration, crime and foreign policy, according to a detailed review of official data and prior fact checks.

On inflation, Trump declared flatly that “inflation is stopped.” It is not. The year-over-year inflation rate stood at 3.0% in September, the same level as when Trump returned to office in January — and it has risen for five consecutive months. Inflation has cooled since its 2022 peak, but it has not ended.

Trump also falsely claimed inflation was at a historic high when he took office from Joe Biden. In reality, inflation was 2.9% in December 2024 and 3.0% in January 2025 — nowhere near the worst levels in modern U.S. history. While inflation did hit a 40-year high in June 2022, that occurred more than two years before Trump returned to power.

On prices, Trump said groceries were “falling rapidly.” They are not. Government data shows grocery prices are higher now than when Trump took office and higher than a year ago. Prescription drug claims were even more mathematically implausible: Trump repeated that prices would fall by “400 to 600%,” a physical impossibility.

Trump’s gas price claims also overstated reality. Only four states averaged below $2.50 per gallon, and no state averaged anywhere near $1.99.

On immigration, Trump again claimed 25 million migrants entered the U.S. under Biden — a figure wildly at odds with federal data, which records fewer than 11 million encounters, many of whom were expelled. Claims that foreign countries emptied prisons or mental institutions into the U.S. remain unsupported by any evidence.

Trump also falsely said he ended eight wars, citing disputes that were never wars or conflicts that are still ongoing, and wrongly claimed his domestic legislation eliminated taxes on Social Security.

Finally, Trump alleged crime was at record levels under Biden. It was not. Crime peaked decades ago and declined nationally in 2023 and 2024, according to FBI data.

Key Takeaways

  • Inflation has not stopped and is roughly where it was when Trump took office.

  • Claims on prices, migration, wars and crime conflict with official data.

  • Many assertions repeat long-debunked talking points, not new evidence.

I would encourage him to do more of this.

Especially as health insurance costs skyrocket.

I hope this doesn't age like most CNN "fact checks" concerning Trump. Aside from their total lack of credibility on all things Trump this does smack of nitpicking  i trust CNNs new owner will attemp to turn the network into a credible news/entertainment station again but he will have his work cut out.

Im actually a bit shocked that the outlet that just called the DC pipebomber a white man a few days ago can even think it is able to run a fact check on anything.

The delusion and blatant lies continue unabated. Believe this man only at your own peril.

President Donald Trump’s glowing account of progress under his watch Wednesday was out of tune with the experience of price-squeezed Americans and the story told by some of his government’s own statistics. In a speech from the White House, Trump assailed the record of his Democratic predecessor and boasted expansively about his record so far. Not all of those boasts were credible.

He says the prices of turkey and eggs have come down and “everything else is falling rapidly. And it’s not done yet. But boy, are we making progress.”

In an AP-NORC poll this month, the vast majority of U.S. adults said they’ve noticed higher than usual prices for groceries, electricity and holiday gifts in recent months.

https://apnews.com/article/trump-speech-fact-check-inflation-9d18903505dae93beb783594e435c72b

According to a recent report from Bankrate, a household earning $80,000 a year is now priced out of 75% of all new homes on the market. A family now needs to earn at least $113,000, and in some major metros, it’s closer to $200,000. Meanwhile, the homeownership rate has slipped to a six-year low, with further declines expected next year. Families are being squeezed from every angle.

President Donald Trump calls the affordability crisis a hoax. In truth, the lack of affordability is real for many families right now, but the cause isn’t homebuilders or landlords or banks. The cause is the steady erosion of fiat’s purchasing power.

Why should they change anything just to please you, that's daft.........🙄

Inflation is ongoing and will get worse.

Food prices are much higher, although gas prices are probably coming down, especially when adjusted for the skyrocketing rate for overall inflation.

CNN is weakest on immigration. The numbers coming across under Biden are unknown, their mental condition and criminal activity unknown, because Biden let much if not most of the tidal wave into the country without checking them. There is "no evidence" because Biden didn't look for any.

As for crime, if you make what were crimes legal or mark them down from felonies to misdemeanors, then, yes, crime appears lower.

No CNN needed — Trump’s words are on C-SPAN. Let AI do the fact-checking.

While you’re there, you might also want to run a logical fallacy analysis.

If you’d like any help, just let me know.

The negative hurt my feelings haven’t got to this post yet 😉

must be some spineless character hurt by the truth about Trump in here, just wait he will be back

This creepy man never misses an opportunity to disparage others and create division, and foster dissent. He is a very ugly man of war and hatred. To the point where even Fox News is discussing how ugly and unnecessary his caustic behavior is.

President Donald Trump added new subjective explanatory plaques beneath each photo of past presidents in what he now calls the Presidential Walk of Fame.

The refashioned West Wing walkway displays tributes "to past Presidents, good, bad, and somewhere in the middle," an introductory plaque tells passersby. Trump’s new plaques:

From "Sleepy Joe" Biden references to painting Republican icon Ronald Reagan as a fan of a young Trump, the plaques include bombastic language written in Trumpian style. The installation is the Republican president's latest move to shape the White House in his image, an effort that has spanned from adorning the Oval Office to razing the East Wing in preparation for a massive ballroom addition.

Biden’s plaque repeats false claims that the 46th president, a Democrat, took office "as a result of the most corrupt election ever," when, in fact, he defeated Trump in 2020 in both the popular vote and the Electoral College. Biden is also described as "by far, the worst president in American history."

Another Democrat, Barack Obama, the nation's first Black president and Trump's first presidential predecessor, is labeled "one of the most divisive political figures in American history."

Trump has partisan plaques added under photos.

Obviously I'm not a fan of this guy, nor a supporter on any level, but even then one expects a certain amount of respect and decorum from a world leader, and it seems like everyday this Goombah is just hitting a new low when it comes to disrespect, disregard, dishonor, an extreme lack of respect for others, in addition to disloyalty to the constitution, to the point where he has become a complete embarrassment to the average American.

I wonder how families of his cabinet members are going to look back on this administration? My guess is that he'll be regarded at about the same level of Prayuth, and with way more disdain than Nixon. It will be considered a new low even for a nation that loves to embrace the concept of American exceptionalism, which is such bogus nonsense. In this day and age there is so little that is exceptional about America, except maybe the homeless population, the murder rate, the number of mass murders going on, and the national debt.

My 2 hopes:

1. Short term - Dems take back the house and the Senate (looking more and more like a distinct possibility) then release all the information that the Republicans have fought so hard to hide. Epstein files and Jack Smith's testimony come to mind.

2. Long term - Eventually the Democrats will get the Executive branch back. Clean out all the crap this cabinet has plastered the government with, figuratively and literally (those new plaques are an insult to the office of the president!), then reaffirm rules that put back a balance between all THREE branches. The Republicans have been plotting this takeover for decades which has exposed the weaknesses in US democracy. FIX those weaknesses so the government gets back to representing "We, The People."

Shoot for the stars, and if we only hit the moon, it will be better than our current spiral towards fascism.

What Was Said

“Already, I’ve secured a record-breaking $18 trillion of investment into the United States.”

False. Mr. Trump’s $18 trillion is almost double what his own White House press office has tallied ($9.6 trillion). It also includes broad pledges and previously announced projects. And more than half of that amount comes from informal pledges from foreign countries to invest in the United States that experts warn may be unrealistic.

For example, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates each pledged more than $1 trillion in investments, which is more than their gross domestic products. Previous pledges in Mr. Trump’s first term may also show the amorphous nature of such promises: A 2017 pledge from Saudi Arabia to buy $450 billion of American products did not fully materialize.

1- short term all of the ones you mentioned but add to that the Hegseth tape of the 2nd shot on the boat back September 2nd

What Was Said

“We wrapped 12 different bills up into one beautiful bill that includes no tax on tips, no tax on overtime and no tax on Social Security for our great seniors.”

This is exaggerated. Mr. Trump’s signature domestic policy law, which he signed over the summer, creates deductions for tips and overtime, but those breaks are temporary. And its tax reductions for Social Security benefits are even more limited.

The law allows workers to deduct tips and overtime pay from the 2025 to 2028 tax years. The deductions are capped at $25,000 and $12,500, and decrease for individuals making more than $150,000 a year.

It also creates a deduction of $6,000 for seniors, phasing out for higher incomes and expiring in 2028. That is not quite eliminating all taxation on benefits.

An analysis from the Council of Economic Advisers, an executive branch agency, estimated that under the $6,000 deduction, 88 percent of Social Security beneficiaries over 65 would pay no taxes on their benefits. That is an increase from the 64 percent who previously paid no taxes, according to the same report, but still omits 12 percent, or more than seven million seniors over 65.

Additionally, Social Security beneficiaries under 65 — millions of disabled people, young survivors and early retirees — do not qualify for the deduction.

What Was Said

“When I took office, inflation was the worst in 48 years, and some would say in the history of our country.”

False. Inflation had already fallen to 3 percent in January, when Mr. Trump took office. Inflation did reach a four-decade high in the summer of 2022, at about 9.1 percent that June, but had declined since then. That number was also not a record; inflation reached higher points in the 1910s, 1970s and 1980s.

Prayuth is on his way back, and as far I know,  Thais seems to want him back to. Time will show.

This Cambodia clashes seems to be the last needle in the coffin for Thaksin Family,

What Was Said

“The price of a Thanksgiving turkey was down 33 percent compared to the Biden last year. The price of eggs is down 82 percent since March, and everything else is falling rapidly, and it’s not done yet.”

This is exaggerated. MrTrump may have been referring to, and overstating, a report from the American Farm Bureau, which estimated that the cost of a turkey at the grocery store before Thanksgiving had declined by 16 percent this year from last year. But wholesale turkey prices had actually risen this year, according to data from the Agriculture Department and a Purdue University report. This is likely because turkeys are known as loss leaders, or items that retailers may sell at a loss to entice consumers to the store.

On eggs, Mr. Trump is correct that the wholesale price of eggs had fallen from more than $8 a dozen in late February to $1.45 last week, a decline of more than 80 percent. The retail price of eggs declined less sharply, about 44 percent, from March to September, the month with the most recent data available.

Mr. Trump was also wrong that “everything else is falling rapidly.” In fact, the Consumer Price Index rose by 3 percent in September.

What Was Said

“Gasoline is now under $2.50 a gallon into much of the country. In some states, it, by the way, just hit $1.99 a gallon.”

This is exaggerated. Nationally, gas prices averaged $2.90 per gallon in the week ending Dec. 15, according to the Energy Information Administration, a government statistical agency. Estimates from nongovernment trackers, like GasBuddy and AAA, were similar.

It is possible that specific gas stations have prices as low as Mr. Trump heralded. But according to AAA, just four states had average gas prices below $2.50 on Wednesday, with Oklahoma reporting the lowest average price at $2.34 a gallon. There were no states with average gas prices below $2.
