Rain Expected in Hat Yai Following Yellow Flag Alert

Hat Yai city is expecting light to moderate rainfall on Friday, according to the Hat Yai Municipality. This follows a yellow flag alert issued for residents as clouds approach the southern region. The announcement comes after a similar weather pattern was reported in Songkhla and in the provinces of Phatthalung, Trang, and Nakhon Si Thammarat.

The municipality assured that canals and reservoirs in Hat Yai can handle the incoming rain, as water levels remain below the banks. On Thursday afternoon, alerts were issued to some communities in Hat Yai district, advising residents to remain vigilant and ready to relocate belongings to higher ground as necessary. This precautionary measure follows last month's severe flooding that left the city and neighboring areas submerged.

Efforts to recover from the recent flooding are ongoing, with debris still present on several roads. The Hat Yai Municipality has planned a clean-up campaign at four locations for Saturday. Experts from the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office have been proactive in sending alerts to mobile users to ensure community safety.

Looking forward, residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and prepare for potential weather changes. The municipality remains on high alert to respond to any adverse weather situations promptly. These measures are part of ongoing efforts to prevent another disaster like the recent floods, reported Bangkok Post.

Key Takeaways

  • Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Hat Yai and surrounding areas.
  • Authorities are prepared, with alert systems in place.
  • A clean-up operation is scheduled as recovery from previous floods continues.

"Wolf! Wolf! Wolf!"

Ridiculous, I've had more 'Emergency Alerts' on my phone in the last 24hrs than I have in the past 24 years!

At least it's not a white flag.

We did another run to Songkhla today. We figure Hat Yai is getting enough attention. They really need to help people in the countryside.

How is Songkhla, is the lake over spill still flooding the town? The Old Town was quite badly flooded. The highway from Hat Yai to Songkhla is a significant contributor to the floods, too few drainage points means it acts like a dam in places.

We didn't get all the way in, just to hiway 408. That section north of the lake along the coast is likely to have ongoing problems

We have been focussing on places with lower populations.

Be a positive if this warmer weather continues because there are a lot of areas still waterlogged.

Happy times for mosquitos, expect an increase in dengue

Whats the situation with building inspections?

Quite a few homes have moved either off foundations or  foundations have had water undermine them.

Dengue a risk but drying out the ground definitely a positive.

I don't think there's any specific requirements. People might get a builder come round and suck his teeth for a verdict. Or shrug their shoulders with a Mai pen rai -she'll be right attitude.
