A tragic car accident on the La Son–Hoa Lien Expressway in Vietnam resulted in the death of a nine-month-old baby after the driver, the child's grandfather, fell asleep at the wheel. The incident occurred around 10:50 a.m. on Friday when Ngo Van Hoa, 50, was driving with his family. The vehicle crashed into a concrete median, causing severe damage.

The expressway connects Hue and Da Nang, with this accident occurring near Khe Tre Commune, Hue City. The roadway is currently under expansion, which highlights safety concerns during construction. Ngo Van Hoa was driving his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson at the time of the crash.

Hoa, a resident of Da Nang, sustained a minor eye injury while his daughter-in-law, Tran Thi Diem Huong, 20, suffered an arm injury. The infant, Ngo Minh Quan, was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. Hoa’s son did not sustain any injuries in the crash.

Authorities quickly arrived at the scene to manage traffic and initiate an investigation. Hoa confessed to falling asleep while driving, contributing to the tragic outcome. Experts emphasize the need for caution and adequate rest for drivers to prevent such incidents.

Moving forward, officials plan to evaluate the safety measures on the expressway, especially during its expansion. This tragic event underlines the importance of implementing stronger safety protocols for drivers and improving conditions on construction-affected highways, reported VN Express.
