my wants are trivial

And so: It seems that you have found the true deeper meaning of life.

And how does one find this truism?

Would you say that it is only though continuing introspection until one...finally...

Hits upon this AHA realization? This sort of magnificent gestalt?

Or, is this just the result of gradual awakening, due to the natural accumulation of wisdom, as one ages?

Still, you are correct, at least in my humble view.

Note: Or, perhaps, some among us reach this realization through some devastating calamity, such as a physical ailment, or near-death experience?

For sure, you are correct in the understanding that our wants are trivial.

And, some of us might never reach this higher level of insight.

I feel pretty good at where I'm at in life and my wants are trivial. Living in a beautiful area of Thailand that is too hard for international tourists to get to.   Lots of locals on the weekends and because of them we have nice restaurants and hotels which is great.

Just for clarification:

You might have mistaken my first reply to your thoughtful comment as flippancy, or some warped attempt at facetiousness, in order to deflect from any real honesty, or some fear of mine to express my true feeling on the Farang Pub.

But then, you would be wrong....

Because, I agree with you.

And, I also agree that your conclusion that wants are trivial is one of the least popular views anyone have ever expressed here, or anywhere.

Still, I agree with your distillation of what you have learned in life.

There are others lurking here who share this view which you have so eloquently expressed in your comment.

Recently, I have noted one other who seems to be a member of the select few among the larger TV membership who have seen the light.

Our wants, or more specifically material wants, are trivial when compared to the importance of doing more with less.

There is great peace in shedding, and great stress in accumulating.

How many of us understand?

This is understanding that one cannot buy, so easily, at any Walmart or HomePro outlet.

At least, the shoppers cannot find it there...

But, I cannot say whether or not the dumpster divers might.

It is not that I'm wiser than others .  Fate more than anything else started my new outlook on life that started with Covid.  At this point I had been living large and it was becoming tedious.  Met a woman just before the Covid situation got serious and asked her to come stay with me.  We eventual travelled Thailand during Covid in a camper and in the process I left my old self behind.

I live in scenic area that is mostly laid back and have no desire to party or sleep around.  Just happy with what I have and occasionally add things but they are not impulse purchases or bring quick highs.

Honestly, I wonder if faced with a dire challenge if I could remain the person I think I am today.  Life can be challenging and over the last 5 years I haven't been tested.

Almost nothing is as interesting as introspection.

Interesting stats:

* About 150 people die annually from coconuts.  Much much  more risky than lightning and sharks combined.

I aways wear a crash helmet / hard hat and that works for me.

A eucalyptus crushed a bedroom in our house in America.  THey are extremely heavy and  their roots aren't deep.  I live in a very wet and windy area.  Not a good combo.  As you, I would take the small risk.  When the wind howls here it was amazing watching it sway 25 meters.

Widow makers. Never set up camp under a eucalyptus tree and never sit under a coconut palm if it's heavy with coconuts.
