A foreign man is on the run after allegedly assaulting and robbing a Bolt motorcycle taxi rider, Ekkasit Jitwijarn, in Bangkok on December 22. The incident occurred around 11:15 pm near Soi Wisut Kasat under the Rama 8 Bridge. Ekkasit shared the incident on Facebook to warn others, stating the suspect rode off with his motorcycle after attacking him.

The suspect, who booked the ride via the Bolt app under the name Dzintars, requested a trip from Phra Nakhon district to Pattaya with a fare of over 1,200 baht. Sensing a valuable fare, Ekkasit accepted the request but was assaulted soon after arriving at the pickup point. The stolen motorcycle was a white and dark blue All New Honda Wave 125i.

Screenshots of the booking revealed the suspect's possible Latvian origin, although this remains unconfirmed. Ekkasit also took a selfie with the suspect as a precaution before the ride. He has since lodged a police report, but there have been no updates on the suspect’s capture or current location.

Ekkasit has offered a reward for information leading to the suspect's arrest. The case mirrors a similar incident in Phuket, where a foreigner stole a Thai motorcyclist's vehicle. In that case, security footage showed the thief feigning playfulness with a dog before stealing the motorcycle. The suspect remains unidentified, and authorities have yet to provide further information, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • A foreign suspect assaulted a Bolt rider and stole his motorcycle in Bangkok.
  • The suspect booked under the name Dzintars, possibly pointing to a Latvian nationality.
  • A similar motorcycle theft case in Phuket remains unresolved.
