The Tourist Police have announced that more than 700 suspects wanted under arrest warrants have been apprehended nationwide through the use of artificial intelligence-powered facial recognition cameras, reinforcing security at major tourist destinations and boosting confidence among visitors.

The milestone was confirmed on 23 December 2025 by the Tourist Police Bureau, which reported that the AI camera system has now assisted in the arrest of suspects numbered 700 and 701. The latest arrests were made in Nakhon Ratchasima province by officers from the Nakhon Ratchasima Tourist Police Station, following real-time alerts generated by the system.

The initiative forms part of a broader project to enhance safety in key tourist areas across Thailand. The programme began in July 2024 under a policy to modernise crime prevention and improve visitor security through technology. Since its launch, AI-enabled cameras have been installed at 18 tourist police station areas nationwide.

According to Pol Lt Gen Saksira Pueak-am, Commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau, the system is directly linked to the Central Investigation Bureau’s warrant database. This allows officers to identify and screen individuals wanted under active arrest warrants accurately and in real time, enabling swift operational responses on the ground.

The use of AI technology has significantly increased arrest efficiency, particularly in high-traffic tourist areas. Nakhon Ratchasima has emerged as the leading station in terms of performance, accounting for 274 arrests from the total number recorded nationwide. Officials described the station’s results as a clear example of how technology can be effectively integrated into daily policing.

Pol Lt Gen Saksira said the deployment of AI cameras not only accelerates the identification of suspects but also acts as a deterrent to criminal activity. He added that the system plays a crucial role in preventing serious incidents and improving the overall perception of safety at Thai tourist destinations among international travellers.

The Tourist Police Bureau confirmed that the project remains ongoing and will be expanded further. Plans are in place to install the AI camera system at all 32 tourist police stations across the country, extending coverage to additional provinces and popular travel hubs.

Matichon reported that authorities reiterated their commitment to continuously upgrading security measures to create the safest possible environment for tourism. Tourists requiring assistance can contact the Tourist Police via the 1155 hotline or the TPB App, which operate 24 hours a day.
