Six-Month Social Security Payment Delay For Flooded South

The Ministry of Labour has approved a six-month extension for the submission and payment of social security contributions by employers and insured workers in nine flood-affected southern provinces, easing immediate financial pressure following severe flooding. The measure applies to employers and insured persons under Sections 33 and 39 of the Social Security Act and allows delayed compliance without penalties. The extension is intended to support business continuity and household stability during recovery efforts.

The decision follows widespread flooding that caused significant disruption to communities and workplaces across the southern region. On 23 December, Labour Minister Ms Trinuch Thienthong said she had instructed the Social Security Office to introduce urgent relief measures to mitigate the burden on employers and insured persons in affected areas. The proposal to extend deadlines by six months was approved by the Social Security Committee and submitted to the Cabinet for consideration on 9 December.

Ms Kanjana Poolkaew, Secretary-General of the Social Security Office, said the draft Ministry of Labour notification on extending deadlines for submitting contribution forms and payments in disaster areas would give both employers and insured persons time to adjust financially. She noted the measure would help businesses focus on restoring operations while managing cash flow constraints. The provinces covered by the relief are Trang, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Narathiwat, Pattani, Phatthalung, Yala, Songkhla, Satun and Surat Thani.

Under the revised schedule, contributions for wages paid in November 2025 must be submitted and paid by 15 June 2026. For December 2025 wages, the new deadline is 15 July 2026, followed by 15 August 2026 for January 2026 wages and 15 September 2026 for February 2026 wages. Contributions for March 2026 wages are due by 15 October 2026, and for April 2026 wages by 15 November 2026.

Officials said the extension would reduce short-term financial strain on both employers and insured workers while safeguarding access to social security coverage. The Social Security Office emphasised that the measure does not cancel obligations but defers them to support recovery in disaster-hit areas. Employers and insured persons can seek further information at Social Security Office branches nationwide or via the 1506 hotline by pressing 1, available 24 hours a day.

ThaiRath reported that the Ministry of Labour will monitor implementation across the nine provinces and coordinate with relevant agencies to assess ongoing needs. The measure forms part of broader disaster relief and economic recovery efforts in the south. Further adjustments may be considered if flooding impacts persist.

Key Takeaways

• A six-month extension has been granted for social security contribution submissions in nine flooded southern provinces.

• The relief covers employers and insured persons under Sections 33 and 39, with revised deadlines from June to November 2026.

• Authorities say the measure will ease financial pressure and support business recovery without waiving obligations.

This is help for businesses and people paying their social security contributions, not receiving payments, they're being given an extra 6 months to make their payments in.
