Ceiling sound proofing set on fire with what looks like fireworks? This is from X.20260102_103347.jpg

Looks AI generated - but a very good visualisation of what might have occurred and how the spread was so quick.

As an example: My son received one of those 'survival bracelets' and wanted to use the flint to start tiny fire... we used tissue and cardboard, none of which would ignite from the sparks (from the flint) - we used 'lint' taken from the tumble dryer and the fire took on first strike (of the flint) just one spark.

This difference surprised me shows how some materials can ignite so easily - I imagine 'sound proofing' is a very good theory, especially if it was not 'fire proofed' (If this is the case at all - but its a feasible theory).

It is called investigation, but don’t let your bigoted and racist views get in the way of reality and facts, yet again.

This brings back memories of the Santika nightclub fire in Ekkamai, Bangkok, where 67 people lost their lives and many more were permanently scarred after pyrotechnics ignited ceiling decorations, tri

Certainly not out of the question - but well 'outside' of the standard terrorism playbook. Given the timing - I'd guess fireworks or pyrotechnics gone wrong.

Does Switzerland use gas heating?

If not wood burners, then usually oil.

A strange lack of information being released.

Swiss authorities tend not to respond to the bark of the MSM and prefer to be thorough. It's not the U.K.. They're probably still investigating.

New builds might mandate (or it might be economical to use) ground source heat pumps.

Sparklers. From what I've seen there was a flameover. Seems like the sound proofing was not of a fire retardant standard. Amazing thing with this photo is how many (everyone) did not spot this. Incredible.

Looks and sounds exactly like the 2003 Station Nightclub fire in Rhode Island, I see nothing was learned from that, sad.

Sadly ignoring fire regulations (possibly) and a lack of enforcing said regulations (possibly) ends up with this type of avoidable tragedy.

I actually got a thumbs down for my above post which was ...

Gotta be one of my thumbs down trollers. I could post the sun rose in the east this morning and I'd get the thumbs down. Some people on here are just beyond sad.

Yup, seeing that soundproofing catching fire just sends shivers up my spine based what happened in the 2003 fire......that fire was so horrible, I can't see how anyone would repeat the bad decisions made that day.

Where are the fire extinguisher. Saw a video of some guy attempting to put out what was then a controllable fire with a t-shirt. A fire extinguisher was needed. Well, some business owners is gonna get sued.

Made me wonder if it was cheap made in China crap. Just saying. Catastrophic failures all round here with scores dead and over a hundred with injuries. The death toll may well rise.

Live Updates: Swiss Authorities Say Sparklers Probably Caused New Year’s Fire

An official said the sparklers were attached to bottles of champagne held too close to the ceiling. Forty people died and more than 100 were injured. Many of the victims were teenagers.

https://www.nytimes.com/live/2026/01/02/world/switzerland-ski-resort-fire

The information came from Beatrice Pilloud, the prosecutor general of the Valais canton in Switzerland, where the fire occurred, at a press conference Friday. She said the sparklers were intended to be used as birthday candles and could be legally purchased in stores in Switzerland.

She also said the fire may have been spread on the ceiling by acoustic foam used as sound-proofing material, but she didn't know if the foam met Swiss safety standards.

It was spotted - but it looked 'artificial' I for one thought it was AI until a lot more similar images from different angles (taken by different phones / cameras) started to surface on the net.

I mentioned before about the fire resistance of the sound deadening material.

I'm dismayed by the inadequate fire safety standards in Europe. I hope Europeans adopt stricter fire safety measures to avoid future tragedies.

I'm dismayed at the intelligence of the young people in the bar.

The ceiling is on fire. The fire is getting bigger and all the youngsters can think about is getting their phones out and taking videos.

Then there's the idiot fanning the flames with a t shirt or towel or something, thinking he's helping to put it out.

Never heard of her but she sounds like an adult movie star.

Supposedly no required annual fire inspections since 2019, someone has a lot to explain. The fact that that soundproofing is on the ceiling, and knowing what has happened in other deadly fires, and that they would introduce fireworks, it just blows the mind.

People were just standing around taking video of the fire. Easy way to earn a Darwin Award. If a fire started in a business I'm in I'd yell for a fire extinguisher, and if there weren't any I'd be heading for the exits ASAP. Standing around with a smart phone taking videos is rather a dumb thing to do. I wonder how many people cut their lives short by doing that. Well - RIP. Sad, but it looks like it was also avoidable.

Setting off any pyrotechnics inside a building is asking for problems. Take them outside where they can do less damage.

Apparently there is even a video of some years back, with a bartender telling someone to be careful with fire due to the soundproofing of the ceiling.
