To Chumphon or not to Chumphon

Featured Replies

Im seeing lots of good hotels there plus gyms. Plus I ride too beaches.

Town any good? Ive been to Thung Walen beach before but not the city.

It's not the prettiest town in Thailand, but it's functional, very much depends what you're looking for. If you're looking to for a quiet backwater, with a good selection of Thai food (excellent seafood), a bit of nightlife that doesn't go much beyond a night market and a handful of bars, one with live music, then Chumphon's fine. It's a few years since I last visited, it's likely a bit more developed now, but I doubt it's changed that much.

Thanks.

As Stocky said it is a quite town in many ways but for those that live here that is what we like, away from the tourist hot spots, great beaches, diving, plenty of durian as the province grows a lot for export. If you are looking for nightlife this is not the place for it, very limited. At the moment there is a lot of tourists here, mainly out at the beaches, but when I say a lot 30 to 100 is a lot here. You do need a car for here as there are no taxi

If you are looking for somewhere new to explore then check out Songkhla province and stay in old town Songkhla.
