The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has arrested a 27-year-old man accused of taking part in an armed robbery that targeted a Chinese national in Bangkok, resulting in losses of about 2 million baht. The suspect was captured after allegedly going into hiding in Samut Sakhon province following the crime. Police said the arrest marks a significant step in dismantling a fraud and robbery gang operating in the capital.

The arrest was carried out by the CIB’s Special Operations Division under a warrant issued by the Criminal Court. The warrant, numbered 2506/2568 and dated 24 April 2025, covers charges of armed robbery and unlawful detention. Officers detained the suspect outside a rented house in Moo 3, Khok Krabue subdistrict, Mueang district, Samut Sakhon, after confirming he had been staying there.

The case stems from a complaint filed by Mr Cheung, a Chinese national. He reported that a Vietnamese acquaintance invited him to a hotel in Bangkok under the pretence of discussing business opportunities. Once inside the agreed room, a group of about five to six men allegedly forced their way in by kicking the door open.

Police said the attackers threatened the victim with a firearm and robbed him of a bag containing around 2,000,000 baht in cash and a mobile phone. The suspects then fled the scene, leaving the victim unharmed but deprived of his property. Mr Cheung later reported the incident to investigators at Lat Phrao Police Station, prompting a formal investigation.

Following the complaint, police gathered evidence and traced the movements of those believed to be involved. The arrested suspect, was informed of the charges and his legal rights before being transferred to Lat Phrao Police Station for further proceedings. Authorities said he has denied all allegations during initial questioning.

The CIB has warned the public that such robberies are often carefully planned and rely on personal information about victims. Police advised people to avoid carrying large amounts of cash into private or enclosed spaces and to arrange meetings in open, well-secured locations. They also urged anyone who notices suspicious behaviour to seek immediate assistance and report incidents promptly.

Investigators are continuing efforts to identify and arrest the remaining suspects believed to be part of the gang. The case remains under active investigation, with further legal action expected as inquiries progress.
