A 45-year-old man from Buriram province was electrocuted and died at the scene while carrying out tree-cutting work near a temple entrance in Nakhon Nayok, police said. The incident occurred when the victim came into contact with a live electrical cable that was hanging down to the ground, resulting in fatal injuries through his right hand. Emergency responders confirmed he had been dead for several hours before his body was discovered.

Police were alerted to the incident on 10 January, after reports that a man had been electrocuted near the entrance to Wat Wang Pla Jeed in Moo 15, Phrommani sub-district, Mueang district, Nakhon Nayok. Investigators and rescue workers from the Sawang Ariyathammasathan Foundation attended the scene. The body was found lying face down, with severe burn injuries to the right hand caused by electric shock.

The deceased was identified as Mr Praiwan Kargandee, aged 45, a native of Buriram who had been working as a general labourer in Nakhon Nayok. Police officers at the scene had to carefully remove the electrical cable from the body to ensure safety. Initial assessments indicated that Mr Praiwan had been dead for no less than three hours before authorities arrived.

According to Mr Thassana Hommak, the village headman of Moo 17 in Phrommani, local residents had earlier seen the victim working alone in the area. Mr Praiwan had reportedly been hired to cut tree branches near the site, intending to use the wood to produce charcoal for sale. During the work, he dragged an electrical cable that was hanging down and touching the ground, unaware that it was a live.

The village headman stated that the cable was believed to be a high-voltage power line that had become damaged. When Mr Praiwan came into direct contact with it, he was electrocuted instantly. Residents later discovered his body and informed local authorities, prompting the police response.

Police have recorded the incident as an accidental death pending further examination. Mr Praiwan’s body was transported to hospital for a full post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death. Investigators will also coordinate with relevant agencies to assess the condition and safety of the electrical infrastructure in the area.

Daily News reported that authorities are expected to notify the victim’s family in Buriram and assist with funeral arrangements once forensic procedures are completed. Further inquiries will be carried out to establish responsibility for the damaged power line and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
