A Thai man is currently on the run after assaulting a police officer during a road rage incident in Bangkok's Don Mueang area on January 8. Police Sergeant Satawat Seirattanapong was attacked by the suspect, identified as Thanaphat, who strangled the officer after a heated confrontation. CCTV footage of the altercation was shared by Satawat the following day on his Facebook page.

The incident unfolded on Song Prapa Road when Satawat stopped suddenly in the left lane to allow a foreign pedestrian to cross. Thanaphat, driving behind, became enraged, pulled alongside the officer's SUV, and gestured provocatively. Following the exchange, Satawat attempted to explain his actions, but Thanaphat ignored him, escalated the confrontation by cutting in front of Satawat's vehicle, and ultimately attacked the officer when he stepped out of his car.

Despite intervention from nearby motorcycle taxi riders who witnessed the event, Thanaphat persisted in his aggression, leading to an argument before fleeing the scene in a van later linked to a state enterprise. Satawat, who wasn't seriously injured, identified himself as a police officer and requested Thanaphat to wait for authorities, but the suspect refused. Efforts by his employer to encourage Thanaphat to surrender failed, as he resigned and disappeared.

Satawat has stated his intention to pursue legal action, highlighting a need for accountability and hoping to discourage similar violent incidents. The company that owned the van confirmed the situation, underscoring the seriousness of the incident.

The search for Thanaphat continues, with the authorities seeking to apprehend him and bring him to justice. The altercation underscores the broader issue of road rage and its potential escalation into violence, reported The Thaiger.
