A motorcycle crash on Koh Samui has left two parents dead and their two-year-old daughter in a coma. The crash occurred on a steep downhill road, with emergency services confirming multiple casualties and severe injuries. The child remains in intensive care as doctors fight to save her life.

The incident was reported at 5.20pm on 11 January 2026, according to the Kusolsongkhro Koh Samui Foundation radio centre in Surat Thani province. Rescue teams from the Koh Samui Municipality and other agencies were dispatched to the scene on the descent near Rai Yai Phan, Moo 3, Ang Thong sub-district, Koh Samui district. The road is a concrete surface with a very steep gradient.

At the scene, a badly damaged orange Honda Click motorcycle was found around 30 metres from where the bodies were discovered. The deceased were identified as Mr Sarawut, 39, who suffered a broken neck and severe head wounds and Ms Thanaporn, 35, whose face was badly disfigured from the impact.

Nearby, rescuers found the couple’s two-year-old daughter unconscious with critical injuries. She was immediately rushed to Koh Samui Hospital. Doctors later transferred her to the intensive care unit, where she remains in a coma.

Police investigators said the family had earlier travelled uphill to dine at a restaurant in the Rai Yai Phan area. While riding downhill towards the main road, the motorcycle rider reportedly lost control due to excessive speed on the steep slope. All three were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

Koh Samui district chief Mr Amorn Chumchuay attended the scene and warned that the route is particularly dangerous for riders. He explained that automatic motorcycles are at risk of brake fade when brakes are applied continuously on long downhill stretches, causing heat build-up and loss of braking power. Authorities urged residents and tourists to check vehicle conditions and always wear helmets.

Matichon reported that nvestigators from Koh Samui Police Station documented evidence at the site and will send the bodies for post-mortem examinations. The bodies will then be released to relatives for religious rites, while the investigation into the exact circumstances continues.
