A section of the Bukidnon-Davao highway in Sitio Kipolot, Barangay Palacapao, Quezon, Bukidnon, was reopened by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on January 14. This reopening comes two and a half months after a significant landslide blocked the road, significantly impacting travel in the region. The highway's restoration is reportedly 90 percent complete, with further enhancements planned to ensure safety.

The landslide had caused substantial disruptions, forcing vehicles and commuters to find alternative routes. DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized the quick turnaround in reopening the 460-meter section of gravel road, attributing it to the 24/7 construction efforts, collaboration with Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, and local government support. The restoration project was both a priority and a testament to efficient use of public funds.

Dizon highlighted the support from President Bongbong Marcos and local government units as pivotal to the project's swift completion. Dignitaries including DPWH Undersecretary Lara Esquibil, Northern Mindanao Public Works Director Lillineth Aparecio, and local officials participated in the inspection of the reopened highway segment. This rapid action showcases effective government response and collaboration across multiple agencies and levels.

Moving forward, additional work such as asphalting, slope protection, and drainage improvements will be undertaken to enhance road safety and comfort. These measures aim to prevent future disruptions and ensure that the highway remains accessible for motorists and commuters. The emphasis remains on making sure the infrastructure supports safe and efficient travel, reported Manila Bulletin.
