Bangkok and Chiang Mai have been ranked as the top two cities globally for digital nomads, according to a survey by nomad.com. The rankings highlight Thailand's growing appeal among remote workers, emphasizing factors such as affordability, connectivity, and lifestyle in both cities. Bangkok's top position is attributed to its balance of low living costs, efficient transport, and vibrant cultural scene, making it an attractive base for professionals.

The survey places Bangkok ahead of other major global cities like Melbourne, Tokyo, and Buenos Aires. Its appeal lies in a robust work ecosystem, characterized by diverse co-working spaces and a lively mix of modern and traditional elements, supporting a productive and enjoyable environment. Meanwhile, Chiang Mai's reputation for safety and welcoming atmosphere draws international gatherings, further cementing its status as a favored hub for digital nomads.

Chiang Mai's growing prominence is noted for hosting significant events such as the SEO Conference, which attracted over 800 attendees. City officials aim to market Chiang Mai beyond tourism, aspiring to become a leading destination for 'workations' and international business travelers. The city's ability to blend business and leisure makes it a compelling choice for long-term stays.

Experts highlight Thailand's combination of affordability, reliable internet, and community support as key drivers for its popularity among digital nomads. Both Bangkok and Chiang Mai offer fertile ground for networking and professional growth, attracting an international community that thrives on connectivity and productivity. As these cities draw more remote workers, their roles as global work hubs are expected to strengthen, reported Khaosod.

I heard the very same words used to describe the impact of digital nomads in Mexico City in the early 2020s. The result has been rents have gone up 60 percent and priced mexican citizens out of their longtime homes and neighborhoods. There also Dnomads avoid taxes with short term rentals and manipulation of mexican visa laws. They strain public infrastructure and resources without contributing to their maintenance and operations. Longtime community networks and social harmony have also been severely undercut and in some cases entirely obliterated. Wherever they go, digital nomads end up causing a crisis in affordability for the native inhabitants.

There were loads here in CM before COVID, not so many now with all the immigration nonsense. They've mostly gone somewhere with less VISA problems.

Having breathable air in addition to all that would be great though!
