Authorities have arrested three suspects and seized more than 32 kilogrammes of heroin after raiding a resort in Nakhon Phanom province, dealing a significant blow to a regional drug trafficking network. The operation uncovered a large cache of heroin stored at the property and led to further arrests through follow-up action. All suspects have been handed over to investigators to face prosecution.

The raid took place on 15 January 2026 at around midday, following intelligence that a group of young men was using a resort in the province as a storage and distribution point for narcotics. The operation was conducted under the direction of the 2nd Army Region and the North-eastern Border Narcotics Suppression Command (NBNSC 24). Provincial police in Nakhon Phanom and officers from That Phanom police station also took part.

When officers arrived at the resort, they spotted two suspicious men arriving on a black Honda Scoopy motorcycle. The pair reportedly appeared startled and attempted to flee, prompting officers to detain them for questioning. A subsequent search of a resort room uncovered a large quantity of heroin concealed in shoulder bags and tissue boxes.

Police seized a total of 44 bags and 92 wrapped packages of heroin, with a combined weight of 32.37 kilogrammes. The two suspects admitted the drugs belonged to them and told investigators they had been hired by a man known as “Daeng”, a Lao national. They said they had collected the heroin in That Phanom district and were storing it temporarily before sending it onward to inner provinces.

Authorities then expanded the investigation and used the suspects to make contact with others linked to the shipment. This led to the arrest of a third suspect, a Lao national, at the That Phanom bus terminal. Police said he had travelled to collect the same batch of drugs.

In total, three suspects were arrested, including two Thai nationals and one citizen of Laos. Officers also seized the motorcycle used in the operation as evidence. All suspects and seized items were transferred to That Phanom police station for further legal proceedings.

Khoasod reported that officials said the case highlighted ongoing efforts to disrupt cross-border drug trafficking routes in north-eastern Thailand. Investigators are continuing inquiries to identify additional suspects and trace the wider network involved.
