Only 2 Visa Exempts Per Year is Fake News?

Featured Replies

Read this today on Pattaya Mail. I know it's not the best source, but it's still positive news for some.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Anti-Fake News Center Thailand has issued a warning regarding false information claiming that a new rule permits foreign nationals to enter Thailand visa-free only twice per year. The Center noted that this misinformation has led to public misunderstanding and confusion.

Wetang Phuangsup, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, dismissed these rumors after confirming with the Immigration Bureau.

He clarified that no official announcement or legal amendment has been made to limit visa-free entry for foreign nationals to two times per year.

Furthermore, no legal guidelines or regulations have been established regarding such a restriction.

The Immigration Bureau continues to enforce existing measures, including enhanced screening of foreign nationals who frequently enter and exit the Kingdom in a pattern consistent with visa-run behavior.

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society advised the public to rely exclusively on information released by official authorities, to verify facts and website links thoroughly, and to share content responsibly in order to prevent the spread of misinformation.

Meanwhile, at the Thai embassy in Denmark:
"The passport holders will be allowed to enter Thailand and stay up to 60 days only 2 times per year. If your stay will be longer than the mentioned period, then you need to apply for a visa. "

Well, this is what happens when they're allowed to literally make it up as they go.

People getting ejected on arrival - not a good luck - people will just limit trips, many can't be bothered to apply for a visa, especially if they want to audit your bank account.

I would never get such a visa that requires me to disclose balances.

We discussed this with immigration officer at Wang Prachan.

Basically there are no limits on air, just guidelines to be more strict.

At land borders 2 per year unless good reason. If you're from one of the countries like Israel, Russia, Myanmar or Cambodia then 2 per year maximum by land.

She told us as I'm not from one of those countries could do more than 2 land borders as long as I promise not to go to immigration office and try to extend and not use visa run agency, as I guess they get in trouble.

There is no 157 day per year rule either.

I very recently watched one of the local legal company's videos explaining the situation.

They reckon you can visit Thailand as many times you want in a year as a tourist on short holiday visits (may have to show proof of funds, onward ticket, place of stay, etc., to show coming for holiday) - these visitors are not bring targeted.

The people who are being targeted, and will be limited to two extensions, are visitors who are attempting to live here not on a non-o or non-b visa/extension.

The limit of VE entries is based on the total number of days spent in the Country throughout a year.

Immigration announced 150 days as the point where your entry would be scrutined and possibly refused entry

I have friends who regularly visit, 5 VE entries in the last year, but each visit no more than 14 days before returning to their home Country and haven't encountered any problems whatsoever with Immigration. Genuine tourists.
