A Scottish man, Kenny Robertson, 58, has been declared missing in Thailand after arriving in Bangkok earlier this month. Robertson was scheduled for a holiday and volunteer work at a dog sanctuary. His family last heard from him on January 5, shortly after his arrival, but he has since been out of contact, raising concerns among friends and expat communities.

Robertson sent a brief email to a friend on January 8, though its contents remain undisclosed by the family. Despite the plan to stay in Thailand for a few weeks, he failed to check in at the sanctuary. The missing person poster is widely circulating on social media, with active efforts by friends and expat groups seeking information on Robertson’s whereabouts.

Friend Jordan McLeod reached out to expat communities for assistance, emphasizing Robertson’s disappearance as uncharacteristic. Social media comments highlight Robertson’s experience as a seasoned traveler, often spending extended periods abroad. Contacts were urged to report any information to the British Embassy in Bangkok or local authorities.

There are suggestions to contact the Thai Immigration Bureau since hotels report foreign guests, potentially aiding in tracking Robertson’s location. Speculation online includes him possibly losing his phone, inhibiting communication, while others suggest revealing more about his intended travel spots to facilitate the search.

The case has garnered online attention, with many users sharing the missing poster and expressing hope for his safe return. Robertson’s last known description is roughly five feet six inches tall, seen wearing sunglasses, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • Kenny Robertson vanished after arriving in Bangkok on January 5.

  • Friends and expat communities actively share information to locate him.

  • Online users suggest checking with Thai Immigration to trace movements.

My niece who lives in London is a friend of one of Kenny's friends and she provided the following additional information from his family: They believe he made it to Khao San Road but have no information on where he went after that. He had expressed interest in going to Kanchanaburi to visit the Bridge over the River Kwai and then was intending to head down to Phuket after two weeks to do some volunteering work at the Soi Dog Foundation at Mai Khao.

A bit of a worry for the family but you never know this might end up alright. There ahve been cases before where a bloke arrives in Thailand on his own and suddenly dissapears into thin air and then come back.Turns out that on the first night they fall in love with a young Thai girl and after after a while she suggests that he meets her family in her village in the stisks in Nahkon Nowere.. He tries to contact his family back home but there is no phone signal. After a week or weeks he when his wallet has been exausted by her family he bails out and heads back to Bangkok and contacts his worried family. Lets hope that Scotties story is the same.

He found the love of his life and will soon return when the money runs out.

Which Massage Place ??

Don't know if they tried but maybe see if you can track his phone. See if it still has battery and what the last mobile tower did it ping.

Anyways hopefully it turns out okay.

I would be hoping that Mr. Robertson's story is NOT the same as you suggest.

Hoping for all the best for someone who seems to have had good intentions. Phuket's soi dog kennels can be a heartbreaking place, despite there being a place of refuge and hope. It takes special people of strong heart to volunteer there. I could not do it. Losing such people diminishes the kindness in our world.

Nationality Scottish??? Really??? Then I suggest enlisting the help of the Scottish embassy. (Hoping he's okay all the same)

Maybe he found the love of his life down Khao San road...

Well, could always try...also:

Rather than Scottish man, better to say either Scotsman or Scottishman (cf Englishman)

Looking forward to a positive update article on the gentleman.

Get the police in the UK to check on his bank account to see if it's being used via ATM's in Thailand.

Despite suggestions to the contrary, Thailand is a pretty safe place if acting responsibly and it sounds like this gentleman is an experienced traveller who hopefully isn’t stupid.

In which case my major concern would be a traffic accident.

Good suggestions above to track withdrawals from his U.K. bank account and/or track his phone. Not so useful was the description given out ”5’6” tall and wearing sunglasses.”

Lucky they also included a photo.

Volunteer work with soi dog was just an excuse to go thailand. You will find him on soi 6 instead of soi dog

So, safe, or not?

How many tourist have died on the roads here?

I don't think Thailand is a safe tourist destination.

They are trying to leave the tommies but due to the scottish wealth the uk don't dare let them leave as england would be a much poorer country!

I myself hope he is found alive and well.😎

Nothing more to say especially insensitive speculation on the what if's and if not's...

Well it’s safe if you stay at a resort and go to the beach it’s situated on. I’ve never felt unsafe in Bangkok. Or Udon, or Loi Et or Loei or, well any Isaan town. But then again, I don’t stay out till the early hours of the morning.

But you are right tourists and locals alike DO die in road traffic accidents. Which is precisely why I said that is my main concern. It doesn’t mean that people are out to kill you, but extra care is required in respect of traffic and we all know the reputation of Thai buses.

So I would disagree that Thailand is generally unsafe, but caution that extra care is required particularly when riding a motorbike. And when wandering around a red light area drunk in the early hours of the morning ( not suggesting that is the case here).
