A 46-year-old Chinese national accused of organising prostitution and forcing minors into sex work in China has been arrested in Bangkok while allegedly hiding in a condominium in the Huai Khwang area. The suspect, identified as Mr Dai, was detained on 11 February under a Criminal Court arrest warrant No. 144/2569 dated 27 January 2025. He is accused of offences under Section 358 of the Criminal Law of the People’s Republic of China.

The arrest followed a request for assistance from the police attaché at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Thailand. Thai authorities were asked to locate and apprehend Mr Dai in order to begin extradition proceedings. Information provided indicated that while in China he had arranged prostitution activities and forced individuals under the age of 18 into sex work before fleeing the country.

Pol Maj Gen Wittaya Sriprasertphap, commander of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD), ordered Pol Col Korkiat Wutthichamnong, superintendent of Division 1, and Pol Lt Col Korkiat Kiatang, deputy superintendent of Division 1, to lead the operation. Officers conducted an investigation and determined that the suspect was residing in a high-end condominium in Huai Khwang, Bangkok. After obtaining a search warrant, police entered the property, presented the arrest warrant and took him into custody.

Authorities said the case relates to serious offences involving the exploitation of minors, which fall within international cooperation frameworks on trafficking and sexual exploitation. The charges stem from alleged criminal conduct committed in China prior to the suspect’s departure from the country.

Mr Dai will be transferred to the Office of the Attorney General’s International Affairs Department to proceed under Thailand’s extradition law. Officials will follow formal procedures governing the surrender of fugitives to requesting states.

The Daily News reported that the case highlights ongoing cooperation between Thai and Chinese authorities in pursuing suspects who flee across borders. Further legal proceedings will determine the timeline and outcome of the extradition process.
