Don't blame me for the poor sportsmanship of my countrymen. It's a team sport, no one play can or should be taken as so important. Simply put, they couldn't seal the deal.

Nothing wrong with the Yanks winning every half century or so. Now back to the NHL season!

Sports is not politics, even some superpowers want it to be.

In that case Norway rule the world by the wintersport games.

Olympics is politics to some extent, because a lot of money is invested in training athletes, coaching.

So medals reflect the success of the entire athletic coaching machine of a country.

Just like if one country has more nobel prize winners, it means their scientific training is better ...

Anyway, by the logic espoused by Riclag, the country that finds the greatest support for its values, which are considerably to the left of the United States, is Norway.

Norge! Norge! Norge!

Norway killed them. Well done.

Wpuld be interesting to see spending on say the top 10 medal countries. Norway is top dog but do they spend the most on their athletes.

I think The nordics is those countries who spends most government fundings than any other countries pr capita, but that doesn't say much when we are all together 3 countries only 16 million or so.

Just wait and see what China plan and will do

China is aiming to build a 7 trillion yuan (US$980 billion) sports sector by 2030 – complete with a series of “internationally influential” sports companies and events – as the world’s second-largest economy shifts to a consumption-driven mode, according to a new central government directive.

China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025) aims to transform the nation into a global sports powerhouse by investing heavily in public fitness, venues, and industry growth. The strategy aims for a 5 trillion yuan (approx. $700B+) total output for the sports industry by 2025

, with an ultimate target of 7 trillion yuan by 2030.

Key aspects of China's sports spending and development plan (2021–2025) include:

  • Public Infrastructure Investment: Over 5.65 billion yuan ($791M) was invested to support the free or low-cost opening of public sports venues, with over 3,370 venues subsidized by the end of 2025. By late 2024, there were 4.84 million sports venues, averaging 3 square meters per person.

  • Industry Growth Targets: The sports industry output is expected to surpass 1.5 trillion yuan for equipment manufacturing, with the broader, total, sports-related industry output aimed at 5 trillion yuan by the end of 2025.

  • Key Focus Areas: Significant investments are directed toward the "ice and snow economy" (target 1.2 trillion yuan by 2027), outdoor sports facilities (2,055+ flight/car camps, 914+ ski resorts), and promoting "Village Super League" style grassroots events.

  • Funding Sources: While the General Administration of Sport (GAS) drives policy, funding is heavily supplemented by the national sports lottery and commercial, event-related, and consumer spending.

In fact, out of the 19 countries that won gold medals, only 3, China, Spain and Brazil performed worse on a per capita basis.

. I'd love to pursue this further but I have to slalom away to bow down and pay tribute to America's new Viking overlords.

Norge! Norge! Norge!

So humiliating.

No one cares about the overall medal counts in the Winter Olympics. The only sports that people truly care about in the Winter Olympics are hockey, figure skating, and downhill skiing. People still remember the "Miracle on Ice" in 1980, Franz Klammer in 1976, and Torvill & Dean in 1984. However, in four years, no one will remember who won the biathlon, bobsledding, cross-country skiing, or curling. There is a reason the men's hockey gold game is the last event in the Olympics.

In one game finals, momentum is everything. And in hockey, having a hot goalie is pretty much unbeatable. Even more than a hot starting pitcher in baseball. Because a starter will be replaced if the game goes over 9 innings, but a goalie will be there til the end of the game.

I am happy to see so many of the American players showing gratitude to their country for the chance to represent the USA at the Games. Well done, and we will have our revenge...
