Hi All,

My nephew is in thailand at the moment and is submitting an application for a settlement visa for his wife. I wrote to him with an offer of a part time job for her in the UK. Its a job she can do, her english is good and she has done similar work in the past. When he went to an agency to get his marriage docs translated and certified the agency happened to see the job offer in the folder and said on no account must he and his wife show that to the visa section because she wasn't getting a work visa. My nephew will be working and studying when they return and money will be tight so the job offer which was genuine, was to ensure they have enough to live on. I thought a wife could work on a setlement visa when in the uk. I thought too that the more secure their finances would be the better the chance of the visa being granted. In Bangkok she sells condos and in Uk she would be working at a letting agency dealing mostly with foreign students.

Should I tell him to forget the job offer or should it go in the visa application folder as additional evidence that she will not be a charge on the public purse?

Just read by chance the thread where Davies/Khan scouser answers a similar question regarding a lady cabin crew so I will assume the answer is yes, the job offer goes in the application. My guess is that not all agencies are as reputable or dependable as Davies Khan and they were frightening him into taking up their offer of submitting the documents for 35k baht. He has already done lots himself, just wanted a translation and came out scared the job offer would lead to a refusal.

When considering available maintenance, the visa officer is obliged to also take in to account the ease with which the visa applicant will find work in the U.K., so, yes, include the job letter.

Scouse.
