British Airways flights are Qatar. I guess people want to avoid travelling via the ME.

My wife flew on the regular BA BKK-LGW direct flight last week, a BA aircraft and BA staff.

Webster said their travel agent managed to arrange three additional nights of accommodation in Thailand, but after that they have had to make their own arrangements. She said their travel insurance would not cover the disruption because it is related to war.

Is is actually a war. Not that I know much about US politics but doesn't the US Congress have to approve a declaration of war? By definition it is not a war. Not sure what you call it though.

I realize that it is an inconvenience and they do have obligations back home but being stuck in Thailand for two extra weeks is not exactly what I would describe as hell. Perhaps a little bit of perspective might be a good thing here?

Unfortunately most are stuck in Bangkok which is extremely hot and polluted as you know. The Emirates office is choc a bloc since 10 days.they work on a ticket number system, and to be honest they are working very hard. Most people wait 2 whole days before their ticket number comes up, It’s slackening off now.

The pair have young children in the UK who are currently being cared for by former partners.

That's the best kind of parent. Selfishly fly to a far-away country to holiday without your young children, then moan when something happens and you can't fly back within the next two weeks.

What's next, a GoFundMe to pay for some ridiculously expensive tickets?

It's yet another US "Special Operation".

No, not to you. However, that was not surprising. Can you go back to your old handle

Of course there is a connection. Qatar Airways is a major shareholder in the company that owns BA and looks after their interests.

It was Qatar aircraft and crews that got BA out of the brown stuff when they had the strike.

  • Equity Stake: As of September 2025, Qatar Airways held a 26.5% stake in International Airlines Group (IAG), the parent company of British Airways.

We let AI take care of that:

British Airways and Qatar Airways are separate airlines, but they have a strategic partnership and share loyalty benefits.

Airline Identity and Ownership

British Airways is the flag carrier of the United Kingdom, while Qatar Airways is the national airline of Qatar. They are independent companies with separate management, fleets, and operational hubs. British Airways is based at London-Heathrow, serving over 200 destinations worldwide, whereas Qatar Airways operates primarily from Doha, serving more than 170 destinations across 83 countries.

Partnership and Loyalty Programs

Although they are separate airlines, British Airways and Qatar Airways have a partnership through the Oneworld Alliance. This collaboration allows passengers to enjoy benefits such as reciprocal lounge access, shared premium cabin options, and the ability to earn and spend Avios points across both airlines. Members of British Airways Club and Qatar Privilege Club can link accounts to transfer Avios and use them for flights, upgrades, hotels, and car rentals.

British Airways

Service and Fleet Differences

Both airlines offer high-quality service, but there are distinctions. Qatar Airways is known for its modern fleet, including the A350 and Boeing 787, and its Qsuite business class, which provides privacy and luxury amenities. British Airways has a varied fleet, including the Boeing 777 and A380, and is recognized for traditional British hospitality and operational reliability. Qatar Airways generally excels in premium cabin comfort, while British Airways offers a broader network, especially for U.S.-based travelers.

Summary

In short, British Airways and Qatar Airways are not the same airline. They operate independently but collaborate through a partnership that enhances travel options, loyalty benefits, and premium services for passengers. Travelers can enjoy shared perks without the airlines being a single entity.

Some Brits would be best advised not to travel outside the UK.

I am a Brit, arrived for two weeks in 2017, still here and love it.

No, Qatar are selling flights in the full knowledge they may not operate to pocket customers money and attempt to lock them in to flying with them eventually. The BA offerings come up because they codeshare on these Qatar operated flights.

Earliest BA operated flight to UK I can see in economy class is on the 29th March.

or... people are buying flights that are highly unlikely to fly, caveat emptor. no one's forced to buy these flights.

Travel insurance I don,t know unless u left before it started then travel insurance should be ok.Delays are happening now and airfares will be high. You are 1 of many who are in the same boat,

The reality is, did Qatar rush to help BA in their time of need, or not.

You always plan for an oops in life. Why you have savings, or lines of credit. That they are 'stuck' or 'can't afford' alternate route speaks volumes of their finances.

As I suggest, probably living beyond their means, and shouldn't even be on an international holiday.

Why most household are buried in debt, and will never see the light of day, and work till they keel over. Not living, simply existing for the man in the suit.

... " The percentage you're paying is too high-priced
While you're living beyond all your means
The man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams" ...

  • As I suggest, probably living beyond their means - so you choose to be the judge & the jury?

  • You always plan for an oops in life - so, keep planning until you die?

Like I mentioned before, the situation today is NOT normal. If we all have planned for the oops in life, insurance companies would go bankrupt!

Just my thoughts...

Only a fool goes on international holiday, without extra money or CC / credit line. Yea, sh!t happens, that's why you prepare for it.

Finances so tight, you can't afford alternate transport home. Wonder if they had travel insurance ? If in the case of an accident, would it pay in advance, or simply reimburse, which means, they would have needed to pay for any extended care at hospital, beyond immediate life saving. Or would they be another "go fund my stupidity" tourist.

Yes, they are their own problem ... living beyond their means, but complain about how it's not their fault they are stuck. Boo hoo.

Indeed, though I was replying to a specific post with a graphic of BA flights operated by Qatar.

So how much of EXTRA money is carried by the intelligent?

Anyway, you seem to get worked up when someone doesn't agree with your theories. SO... you are correct, thank you.

What's the point of repeating almost the exact same thing again?

It's nice that you've done okay for yourself, but it comes over as really nasty when you make flippant comments about the financial situation of others. Simply doubling down on it, just makes you seem doubly nasty. Just giving you another perspective.

Myself, always had CCs. Was never a fan of savings, as if money isn't working for you, what's the point. Work smarter, no harder.

Yea, when someone questions the use of common sense, (quotes me), it deserves a reply, maybe.

Yea, I'm bored. Obviously shouldn't have replied, if poster is so stupid, they couldn't understand the first time I posted. I thought it was self explanatory.

Hey, but I did add the 'what if' accident scenario, for context of a 'normal oops'. In case posters (obviously) couldn't think for themselves.

Not necessarily the one I replied to, as not sure if he agrees with me or not. Post was a bit confusing.

Note to self: stop repeating yourself (trolling) to the trolls.

Some people don't even have travel insurance so the likelihood people will have a contingency to cover disasters is non existent.

I am sure the ones who don't even bother with travel insurance don't but then they fall into the fools category.

Fly to Toronto or Vancouver via Seoul Taipei Tokyo or Hong Kong. Then onward to Heathrow. You should have alternatives at a fairly reasonable price

That's certainly taking the long way home. Faster would be KLM via Amsterdam, or Lufthansa via Frankfurt (or Munich) or Air France via Paris. Other European carriers are available. Turkish (or Thai Air) via Istanbul. Then there's EVA air non-stop. I flew Cathay Pacific to the UK via Hong Kong last week. Oodles of choices right now, just need to have a significant balance left on your credit card.

Very true! I guess I was not in the real world when making the comment. ;-)

No, I never said AI is the answer to everything. Where did you read that, to make such a great comment based on?????

Yeah, sure that is reality. They did rush to help. Same as the reality also is that Qatar and BA is not the same company, but members of the same large group.
