Some might argue that the Guardian is just capable of applying more common sense to an illegitimate invasion, war crimes, and a war that has difficult and challenging outcomes no matter how you spin it. No allies are coming to Trump's relief, with regard to the Strait, the entire world has dismissed his plea for help as being just another desperate rant from an arrogant and witless fool, who started an unnecessary war that could become endless.

Although no one is making a public gesture of support, a large part is driven because of a fear of the Iranian regime. Some of it is pragmatic, in not looking to poke a beast, and the the other is for national self interest. Germany is one of Iran's largest trading partners in the west. One billion Euro+ is still a sizeable amount of trade. No doubt, some of it is motivated by the reality that the respective nations' public would not be supportive.

Oil and gas will eventually start flowing again. I expect, in less than a month. They see no need to further upset Iran in the interim.

No. Not one of consequence. Over 100 incursions, wars, conflicts and boondoggles. Not one victory.

Smart people would learn something from that.

The U.S. has not won a major, declared war post-1945 in the conventional sense

, leading to debates over what constitutes a "win." While achieving clear military victories in smaller conflicts—such as the Gulf War (1991), Grenada (1983), and Panama (1989)—the U.S. has struggled with stalemates (Korea) and unsuccessful nation-building in long-term engagements like Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
