The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has implemented free rides on select routes in Metro Manila on March 19, operating from 7 AM to 8 PM. This initiative aims to assist commuters affected by rising fuel and commodity prices due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Routes offering free rides include Quiapo to Welcome Rotonda, Welcome Rotonda to Cubao, Nagtahan to Cubao, Taft-UN Avenue to PITX, and Lawton to PITX.

The free ride program is a response to the increasing economic burden on commuters as fuel prices continue to soar. The Middle East conflict has significantly impacted global fuel prices, influencing transport costs and raising concerns among daily commuters in the region. By providing these rides, DOTr seeks to alleviate some of the financial pressure faced by the public.

Commuters are encouraged to follow the designated boarding rules and maintain order to ensure smooth travel. This initiative signifies a commitment by the government to support the public in difficult times, reflecting the need for immediate solutions to alleviate everyday expenses.

As this free ride program is a one-day initiative, many are eager to see if similar measures will be extended or introduced regularly. Observers suggest the potential for longer-term strategies to address the root causes of price hikes and improve public transport systems, reported SMNI News.
