Great now we will get to sit and wait as cheapo falangs try and argue with drivers that they should only pay 15 never 20. I would be perfectly fine with 20 baht for falangs and 10 baht for thais...of

I'm struggling to see how this is a similar situation. You think people will be searching out 10bt busses "elsewhere"?

Its mostly the Indians who hold up the baht buses by trying to haggle with the driver for a group discount...While everyone else on the baht bus sits there and waits..

They should sell rolls of tokens.

Anyway this is historic.

I would be perfectly fine with 20 baht for falangs and 10 baht for thais...of course that will send the dual pricing what a rip off brigade into hissy fits of how dare you require me to pay more than Thais many of whom make a fraction of what I spend on beer every day.

This guy is going to complain for sure

Could you imagine if it was beer. Heads would explode.

Don't encourage dual pricing

Baht bus should have been 15 before the fuel increases. Thailand should slowly increase prices rather than big jumps. I wonder if bolt fairs are going up, some people may switch

All these people saying cheap Charley...yet these are the type pee their panties when flights go up....how about a 100% increase on everything you buy...not so good is it. No common sense, what about Thai families sending their kids to school. You only have to look at baht buses on Suk, no foreigners mostly Thais and with 3 kids that's gonna cost almost 1,500 baht extra per month....now, how about 600 baht for your 300 baht brekky, or 200 baht for your small beer. The only cheap Charlie's are the ones saying increase the price 👍

5+ years ago the massage shops at the end of Buakhao by Klang agreed to put their price up from 100 to 150, they've been mostly empty ever since, people search out the 100s elsewhere, will be interesting how it pans out for the baht buses

Big 5 baht jump. Massive increase.

So people who thought a 50% increase was too much are likely to add another 100% on top to get a taxi?

It's a 50% increase so yes, pretty massive.

For us foreigners it's no great hardship but for the less-well-off of the local people who use them to travel to work or to visit family and friends it's, as you say, a massive increase.

33% increase and 5 baht buys nothing these days.

Prices for public transportation should be the same for everyone. This isn't the same as a theme park, provincial park or other attraction, as it costs more in the west for foreigners also, whereas the transportation doesn't. The increase isn't a problem for any foreigners but the locals themselves, especially those who put their kids on buses to a school that doesn't have vans to pick them up daily.

I assumed the fares used to be 10bt. It was when I was last there. Must have been an intermittent increase that I was unaware of.

Assuming somebody is taking 2-3 baht busses a day that's an extra 10 - 15bt. That clearly means nothing to you, and very little for me. But 15bt will get you two packets of mama.

50%....how about increase your rent by 50% OK

Anyone seen a massage parlour ever go out of

business ?

Higher price should mean better service.

Weed out reckless drivers.

Ban back riding.

Complete the entire route instead of surprise turns forcing many to pay for two trips.

Increase / add service away from the old up and down the coast.

Of course none of that will happen.

So this is a missed opportunity to force that.

The price hasn't changed in 20 years at least. This is a big jump for locals who rely on baht busses and they don't seem to be getting much consideration.

The point is that 15 Baht will get a local Thai 2 packets of Mama.

Pretty pedantic. I think most people understood that if it would get me or you 2 packets of Mama, it would also get a local the same...

Either I'm not smart on picking up on them, or you're not smart at making them.

I had to read your post like 3 times before I managed to even come to an incorrect assumption as to your point.

So let's assume that it is me who's being dense.... I'd welcome the opportunity to hear you elaborate on your subtle point.

50% increase on a baht bus is a few baht of an increase. 50% increase on rent (or an air fare) is several thousand baht. Not really understanding the point of your comparison. Of course I get that it's harder for a local who has not got a big pension or salary to fall back on.

I've no issue with the baht bus increase, I'm lucky as I can afford, and I can see a reasonable excuse for the increase. It's hardly gouging. I don't fancy the idea of dual pricing, but ultimately it doesn't matter enough for me to moan about it.

I'd rather see a family that's struggling and then I cover their fare for them.

I might even stump up 1 baht to help a struggling group of Indian tourists who need to get discount... Ah, maybe not, I am Scottish after all...
