I see. So what is the 600 baht/month payment to low income families for? Are you aware of the tax measures that apply such as the tax free allowance for children? Are you oblivious to the fact that the government increased seniors allowances and pensions? The increase was intended to address these types of cost adjustments.

I don't know why you expect the sangthaew operators to operate at a financial loss. If they can't cover their costs, they won't provide the service.

Most of the songtaews I see every day spend much of the day driving around empty. It looks like there will be a price discovery phase followed by a thinning of the herd. Perhaps there will be more motorbikes on the road after that.

The sangthaews are subject to peak periods when they are packed too. It's like that with any transit system. There won't be any reduction in ridership over the longterm. And if people can't afford 5 baht for a truck ride, they certainly cannot afford to purchase and operate a motorbike.

AFAIK the Baht Bus runs with diesel, which is made by crude oil. When some morons hinder the passage of tankers via the Strait of Hormuz the oil prices rise. As the Baht Busses are running on high priced diesel, the prices will rise... very obviously.

Not only in hell, even in heaven the cost of living will rise.
